Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here… whatchamacallit… ‘Bama Stetson baseball game. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout it, seen it on the tee-vee some. Sounded like a real humdinger, ya know?
So, from what I gather, these two teams, ‘Bama – that’s Alabama, for them city slickers – and Stetson, they went at it hammer and tongs in some kinda college baseball thingy. Big game, it was. Folks get all riled up ’bout these college games, more than a hen in a dust bath.
Now, I ain’t no fancy baseball expert or nothin’, but I can tell ya this much: Stetson, they done beat ‘Bama. Yup, beat ’em good. Four to nothin’, I heard. Shut ’em right out. Didn’t let ’em score a single run. Imagine that! Like tryin’ to milk a dry cow, ‘Bama’s bats were. Just nothin’ doin’.
- That fella, Kyle Jones, I think that was his name, he whacked one clean outta the park. A home run, they call it. Musta been a real purty sight, seein’ that ball fly. Bet it went a country mile.
- And then there was them pitchers, Aric McAtee and Anthony DeFabbia, for Stetson. Them boys pitched like their supper depended on it. Kept ‘Bama hitters guessin’ all day long. Only let ’em get five little hits. That ain’t much, I tell ya. Not much at all.
Heard tell there was this boy, J. Hylton, who scored a run for Stetson. And another fella, I. Barkett, he hit a double – that means he hit the ball real far, I reckon – and that’s how J. Hylton got home. See, it’s all ’bout gettin’ them boys ’round them bases, like herdin’ sheep into a pen, only with bats and balls.
This game, it was a do-or-die kinda thing. Win or go home, they say. And ‘Bama, well, they went home. Stetson, they kept on playin’. That’s how it goes sometimes. One day you’re on top of the world, next day you’re scratchin’ in the dirt. Life’s like that, and baseball’s just a little piece of life, I guess.
Folks were watchin’ the score, seein’ who was winnin’, who was losin’. You can find them scores all over the place nowadays, on them inter-web things and whatnots. They got these “box scores” too, that tell ya all sorts of things ’bout the game. Who hit what, who struck out, all that jazz. Too much for my old brain to handle, if you ask me.
But I do know this: Stetson played a good game, and ‘Bama, well, they didn’t play so good that day. That’s baseball for ya. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It ain’t the end of the world. Just gotta pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get ready for the next game. That’s what them boys gotta do.
And that’s ’bout all I know ’bout that there ‘Bama Stetson baseball game. Sounded like a good one, though. A real nail-biter, as they say. Hope them Stetson boys went on to do somethin’ good. They earned it, that’s for sure.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go tend to my chickens. They’re probably squawkin’ their heads off, waitin’ for their supper. More important things in life than baseball, ya know. But it’s nice to have a little excitement now and then, even if it’s just watchin’ a bunch of young fellas runnin’ around a field.
