So, I was scrolling through social media the other day, and I stumbled upon this story about a basketball player named Jaylen Fisher at TCU. What caught my eye was that he’s an albino. I was like, “Whoa, that’s different.” I mean, you don’t see that every day, right?
I got curious and started digging around to learn more about this guy. Turns out, he’s a sophomore point guard at TCU and he’s been using basketball to deal with the anxiety he had growing up because of his condition. Man, that’s tough. I can’t imagine what it must be like to grow up looking so different from everyone else.
As I kept reading, I found out that he’s actually a pretty good player. He’s a rising star on the team, leading in assists and averaging 11 points a game. Not too shabby, huh? It’s inspiring to see someone overcome their challenges and succeed like that.
I remember reading this one anecdote where, before an AAU game in Arkansas, he heard an opposing player say, “They’ve got an albino—he can’t play!” Fisher said, “I heard that and thought, ‘I’m fixin’ to kill this guy.'” That’s some serious motivation right there. He definitely proved that guy wrong.
I also learned that being an albino is pretty rare. It only affects about one in 20,000 people. I had no idea it was that uncommon. Fisher mentioned in an interview that he’s become numb to the looks and awkward questions about his condition. He said, “Embrace it.” That’s a powerful message. It takes a lot of strength to be comfortable in your own skin, especially when you stand out like he does.
There was a photo of him being interviewed at the Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. He looked so confident and at ease. It made me think about how much he must have grown as a person to get to that point. Using a sport to overcome anxiety is a smart move.
From there, I watched a few of his game highlights. The guy can ball! He’s got some serious skills on the court. It’s amazing to see him out there, doing his thing, and not letting anything hold him back.
- Started by seeing a post about Jaylen Fisher on social media.
- Got curious and researched more about him.
- Learned he’s a rising star at TCU, with good stats.
- Read an anecdote about him proving doubters wrong.
- Found out how rare albinism is and Fisher’s attitude towards it.
- Saw a photo of him looking confident during an interview.
- Watched his game highlights and was impressed by his skills.
This whole thing got me thinking about how important it is to be accepting of others, no matter how different they may seem. We should all take a page out of Jaylen Fisher’s book and learn to embrace our own uniqueness, as well as the uniqueness of others.
And hey, if you ever get a chance, check out some of Jaylen Fisher’s games. You won’t be disappointed. He’s a true inspiration, both on and off the court. It just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover. This guy is a prime example of that.
