Alright, so you wanna know about this Arlington Catholic hockey, huh? Let me tell ya, it’s a bunch of youngsters skatin’ around, chasin’ a puck. Don’t rightly know all the fancy stuff, but I’ll tell ya what I know. They call it “ice hockey,” like there’s some other kind of hockey, you know? It’s all the same to me, just kids hittin’ things with sticks.
I heard tell they got this goalie, Patrick Clair. Folks say he’s pretty good, stoppin’ that puck all the time. Keeps them other fellas from scorin’. Sounds important, that goalie job. Gotta be quick, I reckon, like a cat chasin’ a mouse. They say he’s one of the key players, always on the ice, blockin’ shots like a brick wall. Good for him, I say. He’s from Lexington, you know, one of them fancy towns.
Now, they got this team, the Arlington Catholic Cougars. Cougars, huh? Big cats. Guess they want them boys to be tough and fast like them cougars. They play in some kinda league, Division 1, they call it. Means they’re good, I guess. Lots of schools playin’, all tryin’ to be the best. It’s like a big ol’ competition, everyone wantin’ to win. Just like them chicken contests at the county fair, only with ice and sticks.
They got this website, too. Arlington Catholic somethin’-somethin’. You can find all sorts of things on there. Schedules, players, scores… all that jazz. I don’t much care for computers myself, makes my head spin. But them young folks, they love it. They can look up anything on them things, even this hockey stuff. They even put the games on that internet thing, so folks can watch from home. Imagine that, watchin’ a game without even bein’ there! Times sure have changed.
These boys play hard, I tell ya. They practice all the time, skatin’ and shootin’. Gotta be dedicated, you know? Like farmin’, only instead of crops, they’re raisin’ hockey players. And they got coaches, too. Tellin’ them boys what to do, how to skate, how to shoot. Like a bunch of sheepdogs herdin’ sheep, only these sheep got sticks and they’re chasin’ a puck.
They play all over the place, too. Marshfield, Melrose… all them towns around here. Travelin’ on buses, I bet. Reminds me of when we used to take the kids to the state fair, all crammed in the back of the pickup. Good times, those were. Anyways, these boys travel around, playin’ their games, tryin’ to win. It’s a whole big thing, this hockey.
- They got forwards, them fellas who do the scorin’.
- And defensemen, the ones who keep the other team from scorin’.
- And then that goalie, like I said, he’s the one stoppin’ all them pucks.
They got different ages too, like 2025, 2026… Don’t rightly know what that means, but it must be important. Probably how old they are, or when they gonna graduate, or somethin’ like that. All these numbers and dates, hard to keep track of it all. I just remember when a kid was a kid, and that was that.
There’s even somethin’ called “My Hockey Live,” they show the games, like on the TV but on that internet thing. Folks can watch from anywhere, they say. My grandson, he watches it all the time on his phone. Says it’s better than watchin’ it on the TV. I don’t know about that. Seems like a lot of trouble to me.
And then there’s this Arlington Hockey Club, sounds like another group of hockey players. They teach the young’uns how to play, start ‘em young, they do. Buildin’ them foundational skills, they call it. Sounds fancy, but it just means they teach ‘em how to skate and shoot good. Like teachin’ a calf to walk, I guess.
So that’s about all I know about this Arlington Catholic hockey. A bunch of kids skatin’ around, chasin’ a puck, tryin’ to win games. It’s a lot of work, a lot of travel, and a lot of excitement, I reckon. Keeps them youngsters busy, out of trouble, I hope. And it gives folks somethin’ to cheer for. Nothin’ wrong with that, I say.
