Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole “army men’s tennis” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride. Started off just poking around, you know, seeing what’s up with military folks and their tennis game.
First, I hit up the usual spots, trying to get a feel for the scene. It looks like the Army West Point Black Knights are the main team everyone’s talking about. Their schedule for 2024-25 is already out there. I saw a post from September 23, 2024, talking about their official schedule, and it got me curious.
Then I stumbled upon some news about a match on April 19, 2024, which was apparently their last game of the regular season. Sounds like a big deal, right?
But things got interesting when I found out about this guy, Private Marco Wright. This dude was named this year’s Army men’s tennis champion. He beat some guy named Angus McCaul in Aldershot. That was on June 13, 2024. I tried to find some videos of this match, but no luck there.
Diving deeper, I checked out some of their past games. Back in February, on the 5th, they had a couple of tough losses, 4-1 against both Furman and DePaul. That must have been rough. It happened at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center, by the way.
I also found a post from a while back, April 14, 2023, about a big match against Navy. It’s called the Star Match, and it went down in West Point, NY. They were talking about the Mids’ record being 19-19 at that point.
- Went through some more stuff.
- Read about Soonwoo Kwon from South Korea taking a break from pro tennis. That’s a bummer.
- Skimmed through the Army-Navy Game website. It’s all about the “America’s Game” and the Star Series. Lots of hype there.
What I learned
I learned that being a pro tennis player means you gotta make it to at least the ITF Futures tour. That’s where you start getting some prize money and those ATP and WTA points.
And get this – the Army West Point Women’s Tennis team is aiming to win the 2023 PL Championship. They’re playing at home, so that’s gonna be huge.
Honestly, it’s been a wild goose chase, but a fun one. I started with just a simple search and ended up learning a ton about the Army’s tennis scene. Who knew there was so much going on?
So yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of Army men’s tennis. Hope you found it as interesting as I did!
