Okay, so I’ve been trying to get more involved in local sports, and I stumbled across this “Avon Hockey CT” thing. I’m not a huge hockey guy, but I figured, why not? It might be fun, and I needed to explore.
First, I tried to find information of it. Man, it felt a little all over the place at first. So many different leagues and age groups, it was a little hard to sort through. I mean, I wasn’t sure where to even begin!
I spent a good chunk of time trying to figure out where to begin. I wanted to find something beginner-friendly, or at least something where I wouldn’t totally embarrass myself.
I started my practice by just getting the feel of my skates again. It was rough. I felt like Bambi on ice. I must have fallen like five times just trying to go in a straight line. My ankles were killing me!
- Fell a lot.
- Ankles hurt.
- Felt like a newborn deer.
After a few sessions, I started to get the hang of it. I could actually skate without falling every few seconds! I even managed to stop without crashing into the boards (most of the time). Progress!
Improving Step By Step
I started working on some basic drills. Crossovers, backwards skating, that sort of thing. It’s tough, but it’s also kind of fun. And I’m definitely getting a good workout.
My biggest accomplishment? I finally managed to get a puck in the net! Okay, so it wasn’t in a game, and it wasn’t exactly a slapshot, but hey, it’s a start! I was pretty pumped about that.
So, I continued my practicing, and it’s still a work in progress. But I’m definitely getting better, and I’m actually having some fun. Who knows, maybe I’ll even join a beer league someday. For now, I’m just happy to be on the ice and not constantly falling on my butt. This “Avon Hockey CT” thing might actually turn me into a hockey fan after all!
