Okay, so, let me tell you about this hockey tournament I went to – the Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic. It’s a pretty big deal in the prep school hockey world, and I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while now.
First off, I had to figure out the schedule. Turns out, this thing is a multi-day event, usually held around mid-December. This year it’s from the 14th to the 16th. Most of the games were gonna be at the Jennings-Fairchild Rink at Avon Old Farms School. I did some digging and found out it was the 40th Annual tournament – can you believe it? Forty years of this thing!
Getting there was no big deal. It’s in Avon, Connecticut. I packed some snacks, grabbed my camera, and hit the road. I was pumped to see some good hockey.
- Arrived at the rink.
- Checked out the team rosters. Lots of familiar names from the Founders League – Choate, Hotchkiss, Kent, you name it. These guys are good.
- Watched a few games. The energy was incredible. These kids are fast, skilled, and they play hard.
I watched a bunch of games over the three days. You see all kinds of players at this thing – future college stars, maybe even some pro prospects. It’s cool to watch them at this stage of their careers.
The whole atmosphere was great. The stands were packed with fans, parents, scouts… everyone was into it. I even saw a few coaches from some big-name college programs. No surprise there, this tournament is a goldmine for them.
By the end of the third day, I was exhausted, but it was totally worth it. I saw some amazing hockey, met some interesting people, and got a real feel for the prep school hockey scene.
If you’re a hockey fan, you gotta check out the Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic. It’s a great way to see the future stars of the game in action. Plus, it’s just a fun, well-run event. I’ll definitely be back next year.
Oh, and one more thing – Avon Old Farms itself? That team is a powerhouse. They’ve got a reputation for a reason. They’re always in the mix, always competitive. It’s clear they have a top-notch program going on there.
Alright, that’s my story about the Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic. Hope you enjoyed it. If you get a chance, go see it for yourself. You won’t regret it.
