Well, howdy there! Let’s yak about this… uh… “bath football score”, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, like somethin’ the city folk would say. Anyways, I heard tell there was a game, a football game, you know, with the runnin’ and the throwin’ and all that hullabaloo.
So, they say this game happened on, uh… Sep-tem-ber the fifteenth. That’s what them smart folks call it, Sep-tem-ber. Me? I just call it harvest time, when the corn’s high and the pumpkins are gettin’ fat. But this game, it weren’t no harvestin’. It was more like… a bunch of fellas chasin’ after a pigskin, or somethin’ like that.
Now, they tell me there’s this team, the Bath somethin’-or-others. Bath… like where you take a wash? Maybe they named themselves after a washtub, who knows? These city folks, they do the darndest things. Anyways, these Bath fellas, they played a game. And lemme tell ya, they did alright. I heard tell of a fella, Mikey somethin’, ran the whole dang length of the field! Ninety-nine yards, they say! That’s a long ways, even for a mule! He scored a… what-cha-ma-call-it… a touchdown, that’s it! Scored a touchdown, just like that! Bath 62! That’s a big number, must’ve been a real barn burner of a game!
And speaking of scores, if you wanna know all the who-beat-who and when-they-played, you gotta look at them… schedules. Yeah, schedules! Like a train schedule, but for football. They got it all written down, when the Bath boys are playin’ and who they’re gonna be tusslin’ with. It’s all fancy-like, with dates and times and all that. Me? I just look at the sun and the moon to tell the time, but these city folk, they need their schedules.
I also heard tell that these Bath fellas are called the Wildcats. Wildcats! Like them screechin’ cats in the woods? Well, I guess it makes sense. They run fast and they fight hard, just like a wildcat. And folks like to keep up with them, seein’ how they’re doin’, readin’ about their games in the… uh… news, yeah, the news. They write all about the Wildcats, who they beat, who they lost to, and all the in-betweens.
