Okay, let me tell you about this BC Northeastern hockey thing. It’s been on my radar for a while, you know? Kept hearing people talk about it, the rivalry, the intensity. Always meant to check it out, but life happens. Finally, last season, I just decided, enough is enough, I gotta experience this firsthand.
Getting tickets wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Seemed like everyone had the same idea. Scoured around a bit, finally managed to snag a couple. Didn’t even care where the seats were, just wanted to get in the building. Figured I’d drag a buddy along who knows a bit more about the college game than I do.
Getting There and Soaking it In
Game day came. We decided to take public transport, avoid the parking nightmare. Train was packed, full of students decked out in their colors. You could already feel the buzz building. Lots of chatter, predictions flying around. Arrived near the arena, and wow, the crowd was something else. Just a sea of people heading in.
Inside, it was loud. Like, really loud, even before the puck dropped. Found our seats, pretty high up but a decent view. You could see the student sections filling up, already trading chants back and forth. It wasn’t nasty, not really, just that typical college rivalry energy. Banners hanging, fight songs playing. It felt like a proper event.
The Game Itself
Man, the game was fast. Faster than I expected, honestly. These kids can really fly on the ice.
Here’s what stood out:
- Speed: Constant movement, up and down the ice.
- Physicality: Lotta checks along the boards. Couple of scrums after the whistle. The refs let ’em play a bit, which was good to see.
- Crowd Reaction: Every shot, every save, every penalty – the place just erupted. Especially when the home team scored. Felt the floor shake a little.
It wasn’t just about the goals, though. It was the tension. You could feel how much it meant to both teams, both sets of fans. Every turnover felt huge. Every power play felt like a must-score situation. My buddy was explaining some of the history, the big games they’d had in the past. Makes you appreciate it more, you know?
That Rivalry Feeling
You really understand why they call it a rivalry when you’re there. It’s more than just a game. It’s bragging rights. It’s history. Seeing the players jawing at each other a bit, the coaches pacing behind the bench. It’s pure competition. You see kids who probably grew up playing with or against each other now battling under the college lights. Pretty cool stuff.
The game went back and forth, tight the whole way. Didn’t really have a dog in the fight, but found myself getting caught up in the momentum swings anyway. That’s what good hockey does, I guess.
Heading Home
Game ended, crowd slowly filed out. Still buzzing, talking about key plays, missed chances, great saves. Whether their team won or lost, most people seemed to have just enjoyed the battle. Hopped back on the train, ears still ringing slightly from the noise.
Definitely glad I went. It’s different from pro hockey. More raw, maybe? The passion from the students, the history between the schools – it adds another layer. If you get the chance, you should definitely try and catch a BC Northeastern game. Just be ready for the noise.
