Well now, let me tell ya ’bout this football game from Bellarmine. It’s been a talk around here lately, you know, folks all excited ‘bout how them boys did. Bellarmine, that’s the name of the school, don’t forget it, and they’re playin’ football at a big ol’ college level, Division I, if ya can believe that. Now, for those of ya who ain’t familiar, Bellarmine is a private school in Kentucky, and it ain’t just any school. They’re the only private Division I university there, and one of the few Catholic schools playin’ in the big leagues down South. They got themselves a good reputation, real proud of their traditions. And let me tell ya, their football team don’t disappoint either.
So, I was hearin’ the other day that Bellarmine’s defense was somethin’ to behold. Real tough, they say. Kept the other team, Vanden, from reachin’ the end zone. The only points they managed to get was a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter. Bellarmine’s defense sure gave ‘em a run for their money, don’t know how they do it! Ain’t easy keepin’ folks from scoring, especially when you got a good team like Vanden comin’ at ya. But Bellarmine? They pulled it off, held ‘em down tight.
And then there was the offense, oh lordy, they were just as good! Bellarmine got a touchdown from Ben Pfaff, who ran a 24-yard stretch to the end zone. He ran for a total of 164 yards and scored two touchdowns in that game. Now that’s what you call a good run, if you ask me. Real fast feet on that boy, I tell ya. Along with Jack Raney, who kicked the extra point after Ben’s touchdown, Bellarmine led the game 21-7. Ain’t that somethin’!
But that ain’t the end of it, oh no. The game wasn’t over yet. The real excitement came at the very end, when a senior player from Bellarmine made a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown. That right there, that’s a moment you don’t forget. It was 43.6 seconds left on the clock, and that boy ran all the way back, lifted the team to a 34-27 win. Can you believe that? A pick-six that big, sent ’em to the semifinals. Folks around here were hollerin’ and cheerin’. It’s the kinda stuff you read about in the papers, but you don’t expect it to happen right in front of you. But it did. Bellarmine won, and they’re movin’ on!
Now, I reckon Bellarmine’s got themselves a good football team this year. They outgained Fontbonne, another team they played, by a big ol’ margin. Bellarmine had 285 yards, while Fontbonne only had 167. That’s a good chunk of difference, you ask me. I don’t know too much about the ins and outs of football, but I sure know when a team’s doin’ better than the other, and Bellarmine surely was!
Folks are real proud of these boys down there in Bellarmine. They’re makin’ waves in the football world, and it don’t seem like they’re stoppin’ anytime soon. If you ain’t keepin’ up with their games, you might be missin’ out on somethin’ real special. So, remember that name: Bellarmine. They’re gonna be around for a long time, and you’ll be hearin’ ’bout ’em more in the future. Just you wait and see!
