Now, if ya been hearin’ ’bout this boy, Ben Merrill, ya know he’s been doin’ some mighty fine things on the hockey rink. Born in the good ol’ town of Hingham, Massachusetts, on a chilly November day back in 2005, this young fella has been makin’ waves ever since he picked up that hockey stick. And lemme tell ya, he ain’t just some regular player, no sir! This boy’s got talent, and he’s been showin’ it to the whole world.
Ben’s playin’ forward for the U18 Cape Cod Whalers, and he’s been a top scorer, if ya ask me. Every time he’s out there on that ice, folks can’t take their eyes off him. He’s quick, he’s sharp, and he knows where to put the puck to make a good play. His skills on the rink have earned him a spot at one of the top schools around, Harvard University. Yep, you heard me right—Harvard! Now that’s some big ol’ shoes to fill, but I reckon this young man’s up for the challenge. Ain’t no doubt about it.
I reckon a lot of folks ’round Hingham know Ben from when he was just a little sprout, pushin’ milk crates ’round the Pilgrim Arena as part of the Hingham Youth Hockey’s “Learn to Skate” program. That’s where it all started for him, just like so many others who dream of playin’ hockey. Back then, he wasn’t the big star—just a young’un tryin’ to figure out how to stay on his skates, but look at him now! From those humble beginnings to gettin’ drafted into the big leagues, it’s somethin’ special to see.
Now, I don’t know if he knows it or not, but the boy’s got a bit of a dilemma on his hands. See, Ben grew up a Boston Bruins fan, like many folks in Hingham. He probably spent more time than he’ll admit watchin’ them on TV, dreamin’ of one day bein’ part of the NHL himself. And wouldn’t ya know it, the Montreal Canadiens went and picked him in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft! It’s a bit of a pickle, I tell ya. Do ya stick with yer hometown Bruins, or do ya put on the Canadiens’ jersey and make a new start? Tough choice for a young man, but it’s all part of the game, ain’t it?
Ben’s story has been a real inspiration, not just to the young’uns out there who wanna follow in his footsteps, but to anyone who’s ever had a dream. He’s worked hard to get where he is today, puttin’ in the hours, goin’ to practice, and always tryin’ to improve. I reckon that’s why he’s done so well—‘cause he never gave up. And look at him now, playin’ at Harvard, gettin’ drafted into the NHL. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, for sure.
Now, if you want to see more about Ben Merrill and follow his journey, you’ll find all sorts of stats, updates, and videos online. Don’t be shy, go check it out! The boy’s just gettin’ started, and I have a feelin’ we’ll be hearin’ a lot more ‘bout him in the future.
