Okay, so I’ve been trying to get into this whole college hockey predictions thing. It’s way harder than I thought it would be! I mean, you’d think with all the stats and stuff out there, it’d be a piece of cake, right? Wrong.
First, I started by just looking at the rankings. I figured, hey, the top teams are probably going to win most of their games. So, I picked a bunch of games based on that. Denver and Boston College seem to be the best ones. I spent hours going through their past performance and their current season record. I thought I was doing pretty good.
- Checked out some websites that give “expert picks.”
- Compared what they said to what I thought.
- Realized there’s a lot of disagreement among these so-called experts.
Then, I started looking at individual player stats. That’s a whole other rabbit hole. You’ve got goals, assists, plus/minus, save percentage for goalies… it’s a lot to take in. I tried to focus on the key players, the ones who seemed to be making the biggest impact for their teams. My notebook is filled with player names, numbers, and so many question marks!
I even tried to factor in things like home-ice advantage and recent performance trends. Like, is a team on a winning streak or have they been slumping lately? Are they better on home or away games? I felt like I was building a pretty solid system.
But then, the games started, and man, was I off on some of them. It’s crazy how unpredictable these games can be. It seems like just when you think you’ve got it figured out, an underdog team pulls off a huge upset. As they say, one bounce of the puck can change everything.
Honestly, it’s been a humbling experience. I thought I was going to be some kind of prediction guru, but I’m just ending up more confused. It seems like “NCAA expert picks” aren’t that expert after all. Anyway, it’s fun, and I’m learning a lot about the sport. I’m not giving up, though. I’m determined to get better at this. Maybe next season I’ll have it all figured out. Or maybe not. We’ll see!
