Okay, so today I decided to tackle something I’ve been meaning to do for ages – check out the Groton hockey rink. I’ve heard mixed things, so I figured it was time to see it for myself.
First thing I did was try to find some basic info – hours, location, that kind of stuff. It took a little digging, honestly! The information wasn’t all in one easy-to-find place. But I manage get address and open skate time.
So, I packed my old skates (had to dust them off a bit!), grabbed a warm jacket, and headed over. Finding the place was pretty straightforward, thank goodness. I pulled into the parking lot, and there it was.
When you get inside, The ice looked… alright. It wasn’t super smooth, had some rough patches, but it was definitely skateable. Nothing fancy, just a basic rink.
I laced up my skates – man, that felt weird after so long! – and wobbled onto the ice. It took a few minutes to get my “sea legs” back, but it was fun! There were a few other people there, mostly families with kids. A chill, friendly atmosphere.
- Pro: It’s a local rink, which is convenient.
- Pro: The open skate time was pretty flexible.
- Con: Website and info isn’t the most comprehensive.
- Con: Ice could have been a little smoother.
I skated around for about an hour, just enjoying the feeling. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Definitely a “no-frills” kind of place, but sometimes that’s all you need, right?
Would like to go again! I think, I will be there every weekend.
