Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of “Saint Sebastian Hockey.” I’d heard about this program and wanted to see what it was all about, so I went to check out practice myself.
First, I found their home rink. It’s a nice facility, not too big, not too small – your standard local rink.
I got myself a hot coffee and found the benches. It’s pretty cold in there!
The Practice Session
I sat down and just observed the practice. Here’s what I saw:
- Warm-up Drills: They started with some basic skating drills – forward strides, crossovers, backward skating. The usual stuff, but you could see the coaches really emphasizing proper form.
- Passing Exercises: Next, they moved into passing. Lots of short, quick passes, focusing on accuracy and tape-to-tape delivery. They worked on one-timers, too, which got pretty intense.
- Shooting Drills: These guys have some serious shots! They did drills from all angles – wrist shots, slap shots, backhanders. The goalies were definitely getting a workout.
- Scrimmage: They ended with a short scrimmage, putting all the drills into practice. It was fast-paced and competitive, you could tell these guys were serious about their game.
It was great watching them. I felt a little tired after watching that.
Overall, my little expedition to check out Saint Sebastian Hockey was pretty cool. I got to see how a well-regarded program operates, the intensity of their practices, and the skill level of the players. It’s definitely given me something to think about!
