Yo, what’s up, everyone! Today, I wanna share my experience with getting a black top basketball court done. It wasn’t some fancy indoor gym, just a simple outdoor court in my backyard. I’ve always loved shooting hoops, and I finally decided to make it happen.
First, I measured out the area. It wasn’t huge, just enough for some free throws and a bit of one-on-one. I staked out the corners, making sure everything was relatively square. It didn’t have to be perfect, but I wanted it to look decent, you know?
Next, I dug out the grass and dirt. This was the hardest part, man. Just shoveling and wheelbarrowing all that stuff out. It took a few days, and my back was definitely feeling it. I made sure to get down to a good, solid base, removing any big rocks or roots along the way.
After the digging, I put down a layer of gravel. This was for drainage, so the court wouldn’t turn into a mud pit after it rained. I tamped it down real good, making it nice and compact. It was like a mini-workout in itself.
Then came the asphalt. I didn’t do this myself; I hired a crew. I’m not messing around with hot asphalt! They came in, poured it out, smoothed it, and rolled it flat. Watching them work was pretty cool, actually. They knew exactly what they were doing.
Once the asphalt cured, which took a few days, I painted the lines. I just used some regular outdoor paint and a measuring tape. No fancy stencils or anything. Free throw line, a little three-point arc, and that was it. Simple and functional.
The Final Result
- The black top looks awesome.
- It’s not perfectly smooth, but it’s good enough for some casual games.
- I added a basketball hoop, and it’s been non-stop shooting ever since.
Honestly, it’s been a great project. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. Now I can play whenever I want, and it’s a great way to get some exercise and have some fun. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, go for it! Just be prepared for some sweat equity.
