Okay, so, a couple of weeks ago I got this wild hair to finally get into tennis. I’ve always wanted to try it, you know? So, I started looking around for a place to play and that’s when I stumbled upon the Bloomfield Tennis Club.
First thing I did was check out their website. Looked pretty legit, they had all the info on there about the courts, membership, lessons, all that jazz. I called them up to get a feel for the place, and the lady on the phone was super nice. She answered all my dumb questions without making me feel like an idiot.
So I decided, what the heck, let’s do this. I went down there last Saturday morning, a little nervous, not gonna lie. I walked in and the place was buzzing. People of all ages were hitting balls, practicing serves, it was pretty cool to see.
I found the front desk, talked to a guy there, and signed up for a beginner’s clinic. Paid the fee, which wasn’t too bad, and he pointed me towards the courts where the clinic was about to start.
Getting My Feet Wet
The instructor, a guy named Mark, was super chill. He started us off with the basics, like how to hold the racket, how to stand, the basic forehand and backhand swings. It was tough at first, my arm was definitely not used to it. I whiffed a lot of balls, sent some flying over the fence, it was a mess.
- Forehand grip: Felt weird at first, but I think I got it.
- Backhand: This one was trickier. My coordination was all over the place.
- Serving: Don’t even get me started. Let’s just say I need a lot more practice.
But Mark was patient, and he kept giving us tips and encouragement. The other people in the clinic were cool too, everyone was struggling together, so it was a good vibe.
After the clinic, I hung around for a bit, just watching some of the other players. It’s crazy how good some of them are! I got chatting with a couple of them, and they were all really friendly, gave me some pointers.
I’ve been back a few times since then, just to practice on my own. I even played a little set with one of the guys I met. I got totally destroyed, but it was fun, you know? I’m definitely hooked.
So yeah, that’s my Bloomfield Tennis Club story so far. It’s been a blast, I’m learning a lot, and I’m actually getting a decent workout in. If you’re thinking about trying tennis, I’d say go for it. It’s not as easy as it looks, but it’s definitely rewarding.
