Alright, so you wanna know ’bout this Brian McGuirk fella, huh? Sounds like a hockey player, from what I gather. Heard the name tossed around a bit, you know, like when folks talk about them sporty types.
Now, they say this Brian, born in ’85, which makes him… well, older than my grandson, that’s for sure. July 11th, they say, was his birthday. Danvers, Massachusetts, that’s where he come from. Fancy place, I reckon, probably got more ice rinks than we got cows ’round here.
He played the hockey, see? Left Wing, they call it. Skates real fast, I guess, and tries to get that puck in the net. Like shootin’ a puck into a big ol’ bucket, only on ice. Columbus Blue Jackets, that’s the team drafted him way back in 2004. Eighth round, they say, 231st pick overall. Don’t mean much to me, all them numbers, but sounds like he wasn’t the top dog, but he still made it, you know?
- Born: July 11, 1985
- Position: Left Wing (LW)
- Drafted: 2004, Columbus Blue Jackets, 8th round (231st overall)
They got websites and stuff, these days, tellin’ you all sorts of things. Eliteprospects, they call it. Got his whole life story there, probably. And ESPN, that’s another one. Says he played for Boston University, got himself a fancy degree. A BA, whatever that is. Smart fella, I guess, not just brawn.
He wasn’t just playin’, though. This Brian, he got into coachin’ too. Head coach for some boys’ ice hockey team at some place called Governor’s. Must be a school, I reckon. Teaching them young’uns how to skate and shoot. Probably tells ’em, “Keep your stick on the ice!” That’s what my old man used to say, ‘cept he was talkin’ ’bout shovels, not hockey sticks.
And then he started somethin’ called ProForm. Sounds fancy, right? Well, it’s for trainin’ hockey players. He’s the founder, the big cheese. Uses all that knowledge he got from playin’ and coachin’ to help other folks get better. Good for him, makin’ a livin’ off that hockey stuff.
Now, they got this NHL, that’s the big leagues, you know? National Hockey League. The best of the best play there. Brian, he played some, but maybe not a whole lot. One year, 2006-07, they say he played 36 games. That’s a lot of skatin’, let me tell ya. But I ain’t sure if he stuck around in the NHL for long. These websites, they got all the stats, if you wanna dig deeper. Scores, schedules, standings… Too much for my old eyes.
He was a young fella once, played amateur hockey, just like all them other boys. Started as a youth, skatin’ around, dreamin’ of the big leagues, I bet. Worked hard, I reckon, to get where he got. Takes a lot of dedication, that hockey. Gotta be tough, gotta be fast, gotta be willin’ to get knocked around a bit.
So, that’s the gist of it, what I know ’bout this Brian McGuirk. Hockey player, coach, trainer. Made somethin’ of himself, it seems. Good for him, I say. Work hard, play hard, that’s the way to do it, whether you’re slingin’ a hockey puck or milkin’ a cow. And that’s all I gotta say ’bout that.
