Alright, so, I wanted to get my kid into something active, you know? Get him off the couch and away from those video games. I heard about this hockey camp, the Bruins one, and figured, why not? Hockey’s a good sport, and the Bruins, they’re a big name, right?
So, I started looking into it. It’s called the “Learn to Play” program. Sounds straightforward enough. It seemed like it was geared towards beginners, which was perfect. My boy’s never really been on skates before, let alone held a hockey stick. The age range was about 4 to 9 years old, and mine falls right in there, so that worked out.
I found out that they were doing this in a few different places. There’s one in Nashua, NH, which was mentioned for July 28-31, 2025. That’s still in the future, but good to know. There’s also one in Newton, MA, a bit sooner, August 4-7. I also read that Berlin Youth Hockey and Triboro Youth Hockey were going to host it. Even Pingree had some association with this program. So many choices, yeah?
But for us, I saw that the registration for one was going to start in October 2024. And the best part? It was only 140 bucks. For a chance to learn from a program associated with the Boston Bruins, I thought that was a pretty sweet deal.
I dug a little deeper, and it turns out this whole thing is about more than just learning to skate and shoot. It sounded like they really wanted to get families involved in the hockey community. And it wasn’t just about skills on the ice. They mentioned something about helping kids develop skills off the ice too, which I thought was cool. It’s always good to see programs thinking about the bigger picture, right?
So, I went ahead and signed him up. I mean, for $140, it seemed like a no-brainer. Plus, it’s the Bruins! Even if he doesn’t turn into the next hockey superstar, it’s a great way for him to learn something new, get some exercise, and maybe even make some friends. I’m pretty stoked to see how it goes. I’ll definitely be taking him to the rink to watch him learn and grow. Hopefully, he enjoys it as much as I think he will. Who knows, maybe we’ll become a hockey family after all!
- Signed him up for the Bruins Learn to Play program.
- Looked into different locations and dates.
- Paid the $140 registration fee.
- Read about the program’s focus on both on-ice and off-ice skills.
- Got excited about the opportunity for my son.
My Thoughts
All in all, this Bruins hockey camp seems like a really good opportunity. It’s affordable, it’s tied to a big name in hockey, and it sounds like they’re really focused on teaching kids the fundamentals in a fun and engaging way. I’m definitely glad I stumbled upon this, and I’m looking forward to seeing my kid out there on the ice!
