Okay, so, today I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with – Bucknell Men’s Tennis. Yeah, sounds kinda niche, but trust me, it’s been a bit of a journey.
It all started when I stumbled upon this tidbit online about Bucknell having a pretty big athletics program, like 27 Division I teams. I thought, “Wow, that’s a lot.” Then I saw they had a men’s tennis team, and that got me curious. See, I’ve always been a fan of college sports, but I never really dug deep into the smaller programs.
First thing I did was check out the team’s schedule from last season, 2022-23. Just to get a feel for what they’ve been up to. I mean, who they played, when, and all that stuff. Pretty standard stuff, right? You can see the whole schedule on their official page. They have details there, but I don’t want to get into that.
Then I learned about the club tennis team. It is not the varsity team, just a club, but I thought it was cool that it’s co-ed. They compete in some regional circuit, the USTA Tennis on Campus Middle States, I think it was called. It’s neat that they have opportunities for students who aren’t necessarily on the varsity team to still play competitively.
Next, I kinda fell down a rabbit hole of news articles. Apparently, the Bucknell Men’s Tennis team had a really good showing at some tournament, the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. They called it a “banner day,” which sounds pretty exciting. Then I saw they won a quarterfinal match against Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament. Go Bison!
I even saw a little blurb about the team having their regular season final match against Holy Cross and winning! It was a 4-1 win. They said it was their last game of the regular season.
Oh, and another article mentioned they won three titles at some “Opening Weekend” event. Sounds like they started the season strong!
One thing that really impressed me was something I read about their academic performance. They mentioned the team had a combined GPA of 3.65 while also winning a lot of matches. I gotta give them props for balancing sports and academics. It’s not easy, man.
What I did was pretty simple:
- Read a bunch of news articles about the team’s recent performance.
- Looked up their schedule from the last season.
- Checked out information on the club tennis team.
- Noticed they seem to be doing well both on the court and in the classroom.
The Final Serve
So yeah, that’s my little deep dive into Bucknell Men’s Tennis. It wasn’t some grand project or anything. I just got curious and wanted to learn more about a smaller college sports program. Turns out, they’re doing pretty well, and it was cool to see their dedication. It kinda makes you appreciate the effort these student-athletes put in, you know? I’ll keep an eye out to see how the team performs this upcoming season, as this is the kind of info that is just fun to follow, at least for me. It wasn’t a huge deal, just something I did and wanted to share.
