Okay, so today I wanted to try out this “Cam O’Neill Hockey” thing. I’d heard a few buddies talking about it, and it sounded pretty cool. I mean, hockey is always fun, right? So I figured, why not give it a shot?
First, I needed to actually find out what it was all about. I did a quick search online. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought. Turns out, Cam O’Neill is a former NHL player and he’s got some kind of training program or something.
Next, I dug a little deeper. This involved watching a bunch of videos online. I saw a lot of drills that Cam teaches, focusing on stickhandling, passing, and shooting. I gotta admit, some of the stuff looked really advanced.
I gathered my gear. I grabbed my hockey stick, a few pucks, and some cones that I had lying around from some old soccer practices. My backyard isn’t exactly an ice rink, but it’s got a concrete surface that would work for practice.
Setting Up
- I set up the cones in my backyard, trying to mimic some of the patterns I saw in the videos.
- I placed the pucks in a pile, ready to go.
- I did some warm-up stretches because, you know, don’t want to pull a hamstring.
The Drills
- Started with some basic stickhandling. Just moving the puck back and forth, getting a feel for it.
- Tried to copy some of the drills from the videos. I tried to keep my head up while doing it. It’s tough.
- Moved on to some passing drills, hitting the puck against the wall and trying to control the rebound.
- Finished up with some shooting practice. I set up a makeshift net and fired some shots.
The whole process took about an hour. I definitely worked up a sweat. It was a good workout, and it was fun to try something new. The drills were challenging, but I think I got a little better at stickhandling and controlling the puck.
Final Thoughts
I think I will try to do it again. My hands felt a bit more comfortable with the puck by the end. It’s not the same as playing a real game, but it’s a good way to practice some skills. Maybe one day I’ll be as good as Cam O’Neill. Well, maybe not, but a guy can dream, right?
