Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “cam thiesing hockey” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I basically wanted to create a hockey game with some cool camera tricks, and it turned into a bigger project than I thought.
Getting Started
First, I dug out my old game development software – nothing fancy, just something I’m comfortable with. I started by creating a basic hockey rink. Just a simple rectangle, some lines, you know, the usual.
Then, I needed players. I whipped up some basic stick figures – no faces, no fancy details, just blobs that could move. It looked pretty rough, but hey, it’s a start!
The Camera Chaos
This is where things got interesting. I wanted a camera that could follow the puck, zoom in on the action, and maybe even do some slow-motion replays. Sounds simple, right? Wrong!
- I spent hours tweaking the camera’s movement. Making it follow the puck smoothly was a nightmare. It kept jerking around, making me dizzy.
- I tried to add a zoom feature, but it was either too zoomed in or too zoomed out. I couldn’t find a good middle ground.
- Slow-motion? Forget about it! I managed to slow down the game, but the camera went all wonky. It was like watching a hockey game through a broken kaleidoscope.
Little Victories
But it wasn’t all bad, with much effort, I figured out that
the camera’s basic follow, and zoom feature, and do some slow-motion.
After days of messing around, I finally got the camera to follow the puck – not perfectly, but good enough. It still jerks a bit, but at least it doesn’t make me want to throw up anymore.
I also managed to add a basic zoom. It’s not super smooth, but it lets you get a closer look at the action. Baby steps, right?
Still a Work in Progress
So, “cam thiesing hockey” is still very much a work in progress. It’s clunky, it’s ugly, but it’s mine. And I’m actually having fun with it.
I’m still planning to add more features, like better player controls, maybe some AI opponents, and definitely a smoother camera. But for now, I’m just happy that I made something that (sort of) works.
It’s a reminder that even the silliest ideas can turn into something fun, and that even if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can still create something… interesting. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself!
