Well, now let me tell ya ’bout this Catholic Memorial Hockey team. They ain’t no strangers to winning, that’s for sure. Every year, them boys hit the ice ready to show what they got. You mighta heard of ’em, maybe seen ’em play. They’s part of the USHS-MA league, where teams from all over are out there skatin’ and shootin’. But the boys from Catholic Memorial, they got somethin’ special. They don’t just play for the game, they play for their school, their faith, and a whole lotta pride.
Now, if you ain’t familiar with the team, let me give you the rundown. Catholic Memorial’s hockey team, they been playin’ with the best of ’em. Back on December 9th, 2023, they faced off against Belmont High School right at the Warrior Ice Arena. It was a good ol’ fashioned battle, and when the whistle blew, Catholic Memorial was walkin’ away with a 4-1 win. It don’t get much better than that. They was movin’ fast, passin’ clean, and makin’ those shots like it was nuthin’. But it ain’t just the game that makes these boys stand out, no sir.
See, at Catholic Memorial, them boys don’t just learn how to skate and shoot. They learn how to be men, good men. They get into all kinds of programs that teach ’em about service, leadership, and being strong in character. It’s about more than just hockey; it’s about becoming better, not just as players but as people. Now, ain’t that somethin’ to be proud of?
And let me tell ya, they sure do live up to that pride. On January 24th, 2024, they played against St. John’s from Shrewsbury, and boy, it was a game to remember. With just a little time left on the clock, Cameron Reed got a deflection that sent the puck into the net, securing the win for Catholic Memorial. I tell ya, them boys got ice in their veins when it comes to clutch moments.
Then, on March 2nd, 2024, it was another big win against BC High, one of their biggest rivals. This time, a freshman stepped up big time, scoring the winning goal in a Division 1 match. That’s the kind of stuff that makes folks stand up and cheer. They’re young, but they ain’t afraid of the big moments. And that’s what makes Catholic Memorial’s hockey team a force to be reckoned with.
Now, I don’t know if you know this, but Catholic Memorial is also tied to something bigger. You see, hockey ain’t just a sport for them; it’s got a kinda spiritual side too. There’s this saint, St. Sebastian, who’s known as the patron saint of all sports, hockey included. I reckon it’s no coincidence that Catholic Memorial’s team is so strong in their playin’. With St. Sebastian watchin’ over ’em, they got the best kind of support.
When you go to watch a Catholic Memorial hockey game, you ain’t just watchin’ a bunch of boys skatin’ around. You’re seein’ a team that’s been built on hard work, faith, and a whole lotta heart. They got spirit, and they got a purpose. Whether it’s at home or on the road, they go out there and show what it means to play with pride.
If you ever get the chance, I’d say you go watch ‘em play. It don’t matter if you know nuthin’ ‘bout hockey or if you been watchin’ for years, there’s somethin’ special ‘bout the way they play. They skate fast, they hit hard, and they got that will to win that don’t quit. And when it’s all said and done, you’ll be glad you saw ‘em, trust me on that one.
