Well now, let me tell ya, this Cleveland State tennis team, they’re somethin’ else. They ain’t no small potatoes, I’ll tell ya that much. Started off their 2023 season strong, down there at the YSU Invitational and the ITA All-American event. I reckon they’re makin’ a real name for themselves. Ain’t no wonder they’ve been so successful!
Now, if you ain’t familiar with Cleveland State, let me fill ya in. It’s a big ol’ school, all the way up in Cleveland, Ohio. Got a lotta folks runnin’ around there, busy as bees. And their tennis team? Well, they’re called the Vikings, and let me tell ya, these boys and girls sure know how to hit that little yellow ball. The men’s team, they’ve been doin’ real good, rakin’ up wins left and right. Just recently, they kicked off their season with a strong performance, and it sure looked like they’re gonna keep on rollin’.
The Vikings Invitational, now that’s a big deal. Cleveland State hosted it, and it brought in teams from all over, like Duquesne and others. A three-day tournament, folks comin’ and goin’, racquets flyin’ everywhere. Ain’t nothin’ like the atmosphere of a good ol’ fashioned tournament. The Vikings showed their strength there, proving that they got the chops to hang with the big leagues.
And let’s talk about the Horizon League. You know, that’s where the Cleveland State boys have been doin’ their best work lately. They’ve been runnin’ unbeaten through the league, and I gotta say, that ain’t easy. Every match is a battle, but they sure are makin’ it look easy! They ain’t just takin’ their opponents lightly, no sir. These folks put in the work, day in and day out. They’re tough, they’re strong, and they’re doin’ Cleveland proud.
They got a whole bunch of talented folks on the team too. That roster, well, it’s something to behold. They’ve been earnin’ accolades left and right. Why, just last year they got themselves some nice academic honors too. The ITA Tennis All-Academic Team, that’s a real feather in their cap. I reckon their brains are just as sharp as their tennis skills, and that’s sayin’ a lot! If you ask me, it’s mighty impressive that they’re achievin’ so much both on the court and in the classroom.
Don’t think it’s just about the game, either. Cleveland State’s men’s tennis team is known for their sportsmanship. They got a good sense of what it means to be part of a team, workin’ together and supportin’ each other. That’s somethin’ that’s real important, you know. Folks might see the game and think it’s all about the racket and the ball, but it’s about the spirit too. And that’s somethin’ these Vikings got in spades.
And, shoot, we can’t forget about the folks behind the scenes. Those coaches and assistants, they’re doin’ a fine job. They know how to bring out the best in their players, makin’ sure they’re ready for anything. I reckon it takes a lot of patience, and a lot of wisdom, to get a team to the top. Cleveland State’s got it all, from the players to the folks teachin’ them the ropes.
Looking Forward to the Future
Now, I ain’t one to look too far ahead, but I gotta say, I’m real curious about what the future holds for these young athletes. With the way they’ve been playin’, I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep makin’ waves in the Horizon League and beyond. I’d say keep an eye on the Cleveland State Vikings, ’cause they just might be the ones to watch in the years to come.
So if you ever find yourself in Cleveland, or if you just happen to catch one of their matches on the tube, don’t go blinkin’ too much, ‘cause these boys and girls are gonna keep ya on your toes. I reckon the Vikings are gonna be a force to reckon with for a long time. Let’s just hope they keep swingin’ those rackets like they do now!
