Okay, so, picture this: I decided to hit up the tennis courts at Colgate University the other day. Yeah, Colgate, that fancy school in Hamilton. I’ve been meaning to get back into tennis, you know, stay active and all that. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, really. I just woke up and thought, “Why not?”
So I packed my old racket, some tennis balls that have probably seen better days, and a water bottle. I drove over there, and let me tell you, the campus is beautiful. It’s got this classic college vibe, you know, lots of green and old buildings. It felt a bit like stepping back in time.
I found the tennis courts tucked away, and guess what? They were practically empty! Score! I started by just hitting some balls against the wall, trying to get my groove back. It was rough at first. My serves were all over the place, and my backhand? Don’t even ask. I felt like a total beginner again, honestly. But hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?
After a while, I started to feel a bit more comfortable. I practiced my forehand, my volleys, even tried a few drop shots. I was sweating like crazy, but it felt good. Like, really good. There’s something about the thwack of the ball, the running around, the focus… it’s just a great way to clear your head. The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze, and I was just there, in my own little world, playing tennis.
I probably spent a good two hours out there, just hitting balls and enjoying myself. I didn’t keep score, didn’t have any fancy equipment, just me, my racket, and the court. It was simple, but it was perfect. By the time I left, I was exhausted but also kind of exhilarated. I felt like I had accomplished something, even if it was just hitting a few tennis balls around.

What I Learned
It reminded me that you don’t need much to have a good time. Just a little bit of motivation, some basic equipment, and a willingness to put yourself out there. Plus, I think I rediscovered my love for tennis. I might even try to find a regular hitting partner. Who knows, maybe I’ll even become a regular at those Colgate courts. One thing is for sure. I know that it’s worth the money to have a try at Colgate and this is what I want!
