So, I got this idea to check out the Columbus, Ohio City League football scene. I mean, I’ve heard things here and there, but I wanted to see it for myself, you know? So I started digging.
First off, I looked up the teams in the league. Not gonna lie, it was a bit of a mess trying to find a solid list. Different websites had different info, but I eventually pieced together a list of the schools involved. Then I tried to figure out the schedule. That was another headache. It felt like every school had their schedule posted in a different spot, and some of them weren’t even updated.
After a good amount of time scrolling through websites that looked like they were made in the 90s, I finally managed to make a rough schedule of the games I was interested in. I picked out a few games that sounded like they’d be good matchups. I mean, who doesn’t love a good rivalry game, right?
Then came game day. I drove over to one of the schools, parked my car, and walked up to the field. It was a pretty basic setup, you know, the usual bleachers, a simple scoreboard. Nothing fancy. I grabbed a seat and just watched.
The game itself was… interesting. There were some good plays, some not-so-good plays. You could tell these kids were playing their hearts out, which was cool to see. Honestly, the crowd was probably more into it than I was. Lots of yelling, lots of cheering. It was a real community vibe. I also talked with some people around me. They all seemed quite passionate about their team and I also got a lot of their thoughts.
The Final Score
-
Atmosphere: Pretty lively, very community-focused.
-
Football Quality: It’s high school ball, so it is what it is. You see some raw talent out there, though.
-
Overall Experience: It was definitely an experience. Not something I’d do every weekend, but it was cool to check out the local scene.
After the game, I headed back to my car and drove home, just thinking about the whole thing. It wasn’t the NFL, but it was real, and it was local. And sometimes, that’s all that matters.
