Ya know, them fellas playin’ that basketball in the NBA, some come from all over. Heard tell there’s some from a place called Cuba.
Cuba, that’s an island, ain’t it? Don’t know much ’bout it, ‘cept they got fellas who like to bounce that ball. Heard one fella, Andres somethin’, went to play for Minnesota. Big fella, played in the middle. Didn’t stick around long, though. Went off to other places, playin’ ball.
Seems like there ain’t too many Cubans in the NBA, though. Read somewhere, ain’t been but a handful. Now, they got Mexicans playin’, Portuguese fella won a championship with Boston. But Cubans? Not so many.
- Wonder why that is? Maybe them fellas don’t wanna leave home.
- Maybe it’s hard to get over here.
- Don’t rightly know.
Someone said there’s a website, Basket somethin’, tells ya all the fellas from Cuba who played. Ain’t got no computer myself, son’s got one, but he’s always busy with it. Would be interestin’ to see who all played.
They say this Andres fella, he up and left Cuba while he was playin’ in some games. Just went to Puerto Rico. Guess he wanted to play ball somewhere else.
People say Cuba likes basketball. Got a tradition, they call it. Means they been playin’ a long time, I reckon. So why ain’t more of their fellas here, playin’ in the big leagues? Beats me.
Looked on that internet thing, at the library, tried to find some names. Said there ain’t none playin’ right now. Since way back in 1946, still ain’t many. Kinda strange, ain’t it?
They got pictures of them Cuban players, too. Whole bunch of ’em, online. Fellas tall and short, all shapes and sizes. They got their own little group, on that internet thing.
Someone told me ’bout Tim Duncan. He played good, real good. But he weren’t from Cuba, came from some place called St. Croix. Wanted to swim, they said! Imagine that, a swimmer playin’ basketball. Guess he was good at both.
It’s a big world, ain’t it? All sorts of people playin’ all sorts of games. Just kinda wonder why them fellas from Cuba ain’t playin’ more in the NBA. Maybe they will, someday. Who knows?
Maybe they need someone to go over there, tell ’em ’bout the NBA. Show ’em how to get here. Maybe then, we’d see more of them Cuban fellas playin’ ball.
Anyway, them Cuban players, the few that made it, they must be somethin’ special. Gotta be good to play in the NBA. Hope they done well for themselves.
Heard tell basketball’s a fast game. Runnin’ and jumpin’, throwin’ that ball. Them Cuban fellas, they must be quick on their feet.
So, there you have it. What I know ’bout Cuban fellas playin’ basketball in the NBA. Not much, really. But it’s somethin’ to think about, ain’t it?
