Okay, so today I’m diving into this “d4 hockey” thing. Honestly, I didn’t even know what it was until a few days ago, but it sounded kind of interesting. First thing I did was try to figure out what it actually is.
Found out it’s like a way to organize a hockey game, a casual one. So I rounded up some friends who were also curious. We’re not exactly pros, you know, just a bunch of guys who like to mess around on the ice sometimes.
We got together at the local rink, the one we always go to. It was pretty empty, which was perfect. We divided ourselves into two teams, just like we usually do when playing, just trying to make it as even as possible based on who we thought was a little better than the others. And then we start a normal game.
But after that first game, we tried to follow the d4 hockey rules. I had scribbled them down on a piece of paper.
- The winning team stays.
- The losing team splits into two.
- Then the winning team picks two players from the split-up losing team.
It got a little confusing at first, I’m not gonna lie. I even messed it up a little. We had to do a little reshuffling a couple of times, and the paper with the rules got all sweaty and crumpled.
But you know what? It actually worked out pretty well! We kept playing, and the teams kept changing. It made things more interesting, for sure. No one team dominated the whole time.
We played for about two hours, maybe a little more. By the end, we were all pretty wiped out, but it was a good kind of tired. And we figured out what it really meant!
I think we’ll try d4 hockey again. It’s a fun way to switch things up and keep everyone involved. If you’re looking for a way to make your casual hockey games a little more exciting, you should give it a shot!
