Oh, you’re askin’ ‘bout the Brian Watkins Tennis Center, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it’s one of them places in New York City where folks go to whack that tennis ball ‘round. Now, if you’re thinkin’ you gotta be some fancy city folk to play, nah! You can be just like me, come from anywhere, and still enjoy a good game of tennis. That place’s been around for a while, right there on Delancy Street, near the FDR Drive, not too far from the East River. Real nice spot, and if you ain’t never been, it might be time to check it out.
What’s so good ‘bout it? Well, it’s open to the public, and they got a bunch of courts, both indoors and outdoors. What’s better, they got it set up so you can just walk in, reserve a court, and start playin’ if you got the right permit. Ain’t no long waitin’ in line like some other places. If you wanna be all official-like, you can get a full-season permit. And I’m talkin’ a whole year for just a hundred bucks! Can you believe that? That’s less than what you’d pay for a meal in one of them high-falutin’ restaurants. And don’t go thinkin’ it’s only for the young bucks; they offer discounts for seniors, kids, and teens too. Ain’t that somethin’?
When Can You Play? Well, let me tell ya, you can get out there and play from the first Saturday in April to right before Thanksgiving. After that, it gets a little tricky with the weather and whatnot, but during them months, you can go as often as you want, long as you got the permit. And if you’re like me, you don’t mind the chilly days neither. It’s all good for a fun time!
Now, some folks, they like to go for the group play or them tennis lessons they got. They even hold some tournaments now and then. That’s all on their calendar. And let me tell ya, if you’re new to tennis or just want to play for fun, you don’t have to worry about fancy rules and stuff. They’re just happy to have people come and enjoy themselves.
- Group play sessions
- Lessons for all skill levels
- Leagues and tournaments
- Open play for everyone
But, don’t be foolin’ around too much, ‘cause I heard they’re workin’ on somethin’ big nearby – a new project down at the East River Park, which means there might be some closures in the future. Best check before ya head out so you don’t get there and find the gates all locked up. I ain’t one for fancy emails and such, but they got a website and phone number you can call to check out what’s goin’ on, so you’re not walkin’ around with no place to play.
Now, if you’re not from around these parts and lookin’ for some directions, just head on over to FDR Drive, make a left at Delancy Street, and you’ll see the sign. Real easy to find, ain’t no need for a GPS or nothin’.
What else should you know? They got all sorts of courts at Brian Watkins Tennis Center – some are for serious matches, others are more for the casual folk like me just tryin’ to have a good time. And you’ll see folks from all walks of life out there – whether they’re young or old, beginner or pro. Don’t matter none; everyone’s there to have fun.
And let me tell ya, if you ain’t the best at tennis, you don’t need to be shy. It’s all ‘bout havin’ a good time and hittin’ that ball back and forth. Ain’t nobody gonna judge ya. Just grab that racquet, step out on that court, and give it your best shot.
Well, that’s ‘bout all I can tell ya ‘bout the place. It’s a nice little gem in the city where you can play, learn, and meet folks. So next time you’re in New York, maybe give it a try. You never know, you might just find yourself a new hobby!
