Well, ain’t this somethin’. Talking about them fellas playing that bouncing ball game in America, the NBA they call it. You know, the one where they run up and down, throwing the ball in a hoop? Yeah, that one. Them Dutch fellas, from that little country, they got some players in there too.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this stuff, mind you. I just hear things. Like that fella, Francisco Elson. Big fella, seven feet tall, they say. Played center or power forward. He was captain of the Dutch team too, did you know? Led ’em in them EuroBasket thingies. Played in the NBA back in 2003.
- Dan Gadzuric – Another big fella, same height as Elson. Played center starting in 2002.
- Geert Hammink – Another one, also seven feet tall. He was in the NBA back in 1993.
There’s talk of others too. Jesse Edwards, another big guy, plays center. But I don’t know much about him. They say there’s been eight Dutch fellas in the NBA altogether. Seems like a lot for a little country, don’t it?
They got this thing called the European Basketball Championship. The Dutch been in that sixteen times. Guess they ain’t too bad at the game after all. And there’s all sorts of fellas from Europe in the NBA. Sixty-one of ’em, they say. Even that fella Giannis, from Greece. He’s real good, they tell me.
People always askin’ ’bout that Rik Smits. He’s from the Netherlands too, ya know. Played for the Pacers. Real famous fella. But ain’t nobody heard much about other Dutch players since him. Makes you wonder if they play much basketball over there in the Netherlands.
They got these fellas in wheelchairs playin’ too. Basketball, I mean. Even got a category for Dutch wheelchair players. Ain’t that somethin’? They don’t let nothin’ stop ’em.
So, there you have it. Them Dutch fellas in the NBA. Not many, but they’re there. Big fellas, mostly. Runnin’ up and down, throwin’ that ball. Just like all the rest.
