Alright, so, let’s talk about this whole East Coast Wizards hockey thing I got into. Honestly, I didn’t know much about it when I started, but it sounded kinda cool, and you know, why not try something new?
First off, I had to figure out what this whole East Coast Wizards was about. Turns out, it’s a pretty big deal in the hockey world, especially around Bedford, MA. They got teams for everyone, little kids to adults. My kind of thing is more about just having a good time, not so much the super competitive stuff. But hey, they’re all about player development, which is awesome.
So, I signed up. Yeah, I actually went ahead and did it. They have like 43 teams. 43! It’s crazy. I ended up on one of the adult teams, obviously. The first few practices were a bit rough, not gonna lie. I hadn’t been on the ice in a while, and let’s just say my skills were a little… rusty. But everyone was super chill and helpful.
- Skating drills – We did a bunch of these. Up and down the ice, working on speed, agility, all that jazz. My legs were burning, but it felt good to push myself.
- Passing drills – These were fun. Getting the puck to move smoothly, working on accuracy. It’s all about teamwork, you know?
- Shooting drills – Okay, this is where I need the most work. My shots were all over the place. But the coach gave me some pointers, and I think I improved a little by the end of the session.
We even played a few scrimmages. Those were intense! Everyone was really into it, trying to win, even though it was just practice. I managed to not completely embarrass myself, which was a win in my book. I even assisted a goal. I am a hero!
The People
The people are what really make it, though. Everyone’s got their own story, their own reasons for playing. It is quite the mix of characters. Some guys are super serious about it, others are just there to have fun and get some exercise. It’s a good vibe overall. They are from all walks of life, you know?
So, yeah, that’s my East Coast Wizards experience so far. It’s been a lot of fun, a good workout, and a great way to meet some new people. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Even if you’re not the best skater or the most skilled player, you will still love it! There’s a place for everyone in this hockey family. Go Wizards! Go East Coast!
I will keep you updated as I get better and play more.
