Alright, so, I decided to check out this Eastern Exposure Hockey thing. I’d heard a few guys talking about it, and it sounded like a decent way to get some extra ice time and maybe see some different teams. I signed up a few weeks ago, not really knowing what to expect.
First thing I did was skim through the rules. They’re pretty much standard USA Hockey rules, nothing too crazy. It’s on us players to know them, which is fair enough. I made a note to brush up on a couple of things later, just to be sure.
Then, I started digging around to see what this whole Eastern Exposure Series (EES) was all about. Turns out, it’s been around since 2021, and it’s basically a way for Bantam and Midget teams to play some competitive games. I found some info that makes it sound like a good opportunity.
I looked up the location. They have something called the NJ/PA Showcase, which is apparently a tournament in Randolph. Sounded interesting, so I marked it down as something to potentially check out.
Checked out what people are talking about, found a few mentions of something called the “Beantown Classic” and the “Eastern Exposure Cup.” They had scores, schedules, and all that stuff listed. I scrolled through a few of the teams and saw one called “East Coast Militia” listed as #47. Made me chuckle a little.
I also found what seems to be their social media page. They have a pretty big following, and I browsed through some of their posts. Looks like they post updates and stuff there, so I gave them a follow to keep an eye on things.
Then I stumbled on their YouTube channel. It’s the official channel for something called the Eastern Hockey League, or EHL. They’ve got 30 teams, all junior level, along the East Coast. I watched a couple of videos, just to get a feel for the level of play.
Getting ready for my first game
I also found an article about the U15 division of the Eastern Exposure Cup. They had scouts there checking out the players. It was interesting to read what they looked for and how they evaluated the players.
So, I got all my gear together, made sure everything was in good shape, and headed to the rink. It was a bit of a drive, but I was actually kind of excited to see what this was all about. The games are pretty competitive, which is what I was looking for.
My first game was pretty intense. It was a good experience, and I’m definitely planning on playing more.
