Okay, so today I decided to really focus on my edge work in hockey. It’s something I’ve been meaning to improve, and I finally carved out some time to hit the ice and just drill it.
I started off by just feeling the edges, you know? Skating around, doing some wide turns, really trying to get comfortable on both my inside and outside edges. I did some basic forward crossovers, focusing on using my outside edge to push off and generate power. It felt a little wobbly at first, but I kept at it.
Working on Those Tight Turns
After I warmed up, I moved on to some tighter turns. I set up a couple of cones and practiced skating around them, really trying to lean into the turns and use my edges to control my speed and direction. I fell a couple of times, not gonna lie! Especially when I was pushing myself to go faster. But hey, that’s part of the process, right?
I spent a good chunk of time working on my outside edges. Specifically
- I focused to push with outside edge.
- I did a lot of turns using outside edge.
- I tried to keep balance using outside edge.
Forward and Backward Crossovers
Next, I worked on both forward and backward crossovers. The forward crossovers felt pretty good, but the backward ones were definitely more challenging. I really had to concentrate on my balance and make sure I was using my edges correctly to avoid tripping myself up.
Ending it with Agility Drills
To finish up, I did some agility drills. I set up a small course with cones and practiced weaving in and out of them, focusing on quick turns and edge transitions. It was tiring, but it felt great to push myself and see how much control I could maintain while moving at a decent speed.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with my edge work session today. I definitely felt like I made some progress, and I’m excited to keep practicing and see how much I can improve. It’s all about putting in the time and effort, and today was a good step in the right direction. Got feel tired but very good.
