Alright, let’s talk about this young fella, Elliott Groenewold. He plays hockey, you know, that ice game with the sticks and the puck. I don’t know much about it, but my grandson, he loves it. Always yellin’ at the TV, “Go, go, go!”
So, this Elliott, he’s from a place called Springfield, Vermont. Born in 2006, February 4th, to be exact. Just a young whippersnapper, really. My Billy was already milkin’ cows by that age. But these youngsters, they do different things now. Hockey, imagine that!
He’s a defenseman, they say. Means he’s supposed to stop the other team from scorin’. Like a fence, I guess, but on ice. He’s pretty big, 6 foot 2, and weighs 200 pounds. That’s a big boy, even bigger than my Jedediah! He shoots left-handed, which I hear is important in that hockey game. Like how some folks are right-handed with their pitchforks and some are left.
Now, this boy, he played for a team called the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in somethin’ called the USHL. Played 57 games, they say. That’s a lot of games, ain’t it? Must be skatin’ all over the place. I bet he gets tired. My old bones would ache just thinkin’ about it.
- He was drafted by Boston, in the 4th round.
- 110th overall, they said. Don’t rightly know what that means, but sounds fancy.
- Like pickin’ apples, I guess, but with people. Only they pick ‘em for hockey, not for eatin’.
And get this, he’s gonna be playin’ for somethin’ called Quinnipiac University. Sounds like one of them fancy colleges my niece always talks about. She went to one of them places, learned a whole lot of stuff I don’t understand. Anyway, he’s the second new guy on the team, they said. Big deal, I reckon.
They got all sorts of stats and news and videos about him online, I heard. But I ain’t got no computer, and even if I did, I wouldn’t know how to look at it. My grandson, he’s always on that phone of his, lookin’ at videos. Maybe he’s seen this Elliott fella play. I’ll have to ask him.
He even went to somethin’ in Las Vegas. NHL somethin’ or other. Las Vegas! That’s a place with all them lights and casinos, ain’t it? What’s a hockey player doin’ in Las Vegas? Probably some big fancy event. These young folks, they go to all sorts of places.
So, this Elliott Groenewold, he seems like a pretty good hockey player. Big fella, plays defense, and goin’ to college. He’s from Vermont, just like my sister’s friend’s cousin. Small world, ain’t it? I hope he does well, this Elliott. Makes his mama proud, just like my Billy makes me proud when he brings in a good harvest.
Folks get all excited about these hockey players. Cheerin’ and yellin’. It’s just a game, I always say. But I guess it makes people happy. And if this young Elliott Groenewold makes people happy, well, then that’s a good thing, ain’t it? He’s just a kid, really, out there skatin’ on the ice. Hope he stays safe and doesn’t get hurt. Those hockey pucks can be dangerous, I hear.
Anyway, that’s all I know about this Elliott fella. A hockey player from Vermont. Seems like a good boy. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. They get awful cranky if they ain’t fed on time.
