Well, let me tell ya about this feller named Owen Keefe. He’s a young lad, born back on March 26th, 2006, in Saugus, Massachusetts, and now he’s making quite a name for himself out on the ice. I’ve heard folks talk about him around here, and it’s all about hockey, of course. Now, this boy ain’t just some ordinary skater, he’s a defenseman, y’know. And for folks who don’t know what that is, he’s the one who keeps the puck from getting too close to his goal, like a gatekeeper, making sure nobody sneaks through the backdoor and scores a goal on his team.
He’s been skating for a few years now, and by all accounts, the boy’s good at it. He started his journey with the Boston Junior Whalers Elite Hockey Club. I don’t know much about these fancy teams, but I hear they’re top-notch. The boy’s been a part of the team for a while, and word is, he’s headed for even bigger things. He’s already got a commitment to Boston University, where he’s gonna be playing for their hockey team. That’s a big deal, I reckon. Not many folks from around here get to play at that level, so you can see why people are so proud of him.
Now, Owen didn’t just start with the big leagues, no sir. He worked his way up like most young players. He played for the Malden Catholic High School team in 2021-22 after a season with the Boston Jr. Eagles. That’s where he really started to catch some eyes. I’ve heard tell that he appeared in 21 games for Malden Catholic, and you can bet he made every one of ‘em count.
The boy’s a defenseman, like I said, but he ain’t just sittin’ back and waitin’ for the action to come to him. He’s active out there, always moving, always lookin’ to stop the other team. And it seems he’s real good at it, too. He got noticed by the Sioux City Musketeers, which is a team in the USHL, and they traded for him. That’s a big deal too, ‘cause it means the Musketeers saw something special in him, and they’re lookin’ to see what else he’s got in the tank. They even gave up a 2024 draft pick just to get him. So, yeah, you could say people got high hopes for this young feller.
Now, let’s talk a little about his family. His daddy’s none other than Jerry Keefe, the head coach over at Northeastern. That boy must’ve learned a thing or two from his old man, eh? You can’t just be a good hockey player without puttin’ in the work, and I reckon having a coach as a father helps keep you on the right path.
As for Owen’s playing style, well, folks say he’s quick on his skates, and he’s got a good eye for the game. The boy knows when to step in and break up a play, and he knows when to pass the puck up the ice. Hockey ain’t just about runnin’ fast and hittin’ hard. You gotta have your head in the game, and Owen seems to have that part down.
He’s also been a part of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he signed a tender agreement for the 2022-23 season. Not sure exactly what that all means, but I reckon it’s somethin’ good. Another sign he’s headed places.
So, where is Owen Keefe headed from here? Well, he’s still young, but things are looking mighty bright for him. I’ve seen a few folks sayin’ he could make it to the NHL one day. Who knows? All I know is, he’s workin’ hard, and when a boy works hard, he’s bound to see some rewards. It’s always nice to see one of our own makin’ it big, and I reckon we’ll be hearin’ a lot more about Owen Keefe in the future.
Now, I don’t know if he’ll be the next big thing in hockey, but I sure hope so. Whether he’s out on that ice or back home in Saugus, you can bet he’s makin’ his mark. And if you ever get a chance to watch him play, you’ll see why folks are talkin’ about him. The boy’s got talent, and that’s somethin’ that don’t go unnoticed.
