Okay, so, I’ve been getting into hockey lately, and I gotta tell you about this whole Exeter Academy hockey thing. It’s been a ride, let me explain.
It all started a few months ago. I wasn’t really looking for a new sport, but a buddy of mine kept talking about hockey. Eventually, I gave in and started looking into it. That’s when I stumbled upon Exeter Academy. It sounds fancy, right? And it kinda is, but don’t let that scare you off.
Getting Started
First off, I had to figure out what exactly Exeter Academy hockey was all about. I did some digging and found out they have this boys varsity ice hockey team. I saw some information about this game they had against Governor’s Academy, and wow, it was a 7-6 game! That sounded exciting. They also have a JV team, which seemed like a good place for beginners. Then I started to see if there were any rankings for this team. Apparently, they’re pretty good!
- Checked out their website – lots of info on the teams, schedules, and stuff.
- Watched some videos of their games online – super intense!
- Read up on the coaches and the overall program – seems like they really know their stuff.
Diving In
Once I got a feel for it, I decided to go all in. I looked up their schedule online. It is said that the 2024-25 schedule is out. It seemed like they played against a bunch of other independent schools, which is cool. I checked where they were located, and it’s at 20 Main St, Exeter. I also looked at the roster for the team. I saw names like Tyler Callander, Ryan Hasapis, and a few others. Seemed like a solid group of guys.
- Found out they have open tryouts – nervous but excited!
- Bought some basic gear – nothing too fancy, just the essentials.
- Started practicing on my own – skating, stickhandling, the whole nine yards.
The Experience
Now, here’s where things got interesting. The tryouts were tough, man. Everyone there was pretty good, but I gave it my all. Surprisingly, I made the JV team! It was a huge confidence boost. But that’s not all I did. I also wanted to watch a game in person. The one I saw was against Stanstead College, and they won! It was a great experience, and I learned a lot just from watching.
- Practices were intense – lots of drills, scrimmages, and conditioning.
- Played my first few games – a bit shaky at first, but I’m getting better.
- The team is great – everyone’s supportive, and the coaches are helpful.
My Thoughts
Honestly, getting into Exeter Academy hockey was one of the best decisions I’ve made recently. I can say that they are indeed a premier choice for young athletes. It’s not just about the sport itself; it’s the whole experience. It is a pretty prestigious institution. I’ve learned so much about teamwork, discipline, and pushing myself to my limits. Plus, it’s just a ton of fun!
If you’re thinking about trying out a new sport, I definitely recommend checking out hockey, especially Exeter Academy. It might seem intimidating at first, but trust me, it’s worth it. Just be prepared to work hard and have a blast!
This whole hockey journey has been a wild ride, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next. Who knows, maybe I’ll even make it to the varsity team one day! For now, I’m just happy to be part of the Exeter Academy hockey family.
Keep playing hard!
