Well, lemme tell ya about a feller named Damon Brown. Now, I ain’t talkin’ about no common man down the road, no sir. This here’s a big ol’ basketball player. His full name’s Damone Lamar Brown, born June 28, 1979. And lemme tell ya, he’s a tall feller, standin’ at 6 feet 9 inches! That’s taller than most of them tree branches I used to climb as a young’un, I’ll tell ya that. He weighed in at about 212 pounds, so he wasn’t exactly light as a feather either, no sir. He played forward, which means he had to do a whole lotta runnin’ around the court. I reckon that ain’t easy on them knees, but he done it real good.
Now, before all them fancy games on TV, Damon Brown was just another young feller tryin’ to make a name for himself. He went to college at Syracuse University, that’s up north somewhere, where they play basketball like it’s in their blood. He played four years there and made quite a name for himself, I hear. Folks said he was a tall, lanky guy who could move around the court like it was second nature. He wasn’t just standin’ around like some big ol’ tree in the yard, no sir. He had some skills with that ball, especially with his mid-range jump shot. He could shoot that ball from around the middle of the court and make it look easy!
Then, back in 2001, the Philadelphia 76ers, that’s a big ol’ team from the NBA, saw somethin’ in Damon. They decided to pick him up in the second round of the NBA draft. Now, for those who don’t know, that’s a big deal! That means the 76ers thought he had what it took to play in the big leagues. And boy, he didn’t disappoint. Damon got himself into that NBA action, runnin’ with some of the best players out there. He might’ve been a little newer to the game, but he worked hard and did his part.
After his time with the 76ers, Damon didn’t just stop playin’ basketball. He went on to do a little coachin’, too. In 2015, he found himself an assistant coachin’ job at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, New York. Now, I ain’t sure what all goes on in them big ol’ fancy colleges, but I know they take their basketball serious. Damon coached there for a few seasons, and I reckon he taught them young fellers all the tricks he’d picked up along the way.
Now, he ain’t playin’ ball no more, but Damon’s legacy still lives on. You can find his stats and all sorts of info about him on places like ESPN and NBA websites, where they keep track of every shot, pass, and rebound he made. His career stats, they tell ya how many points he scored, how many rebounds he grabbed, and how many minutes he spent on that court. All that’s important if ya wanna keep track of how well a feller did in the game. And don’t forget, them college stats still count, too. Even though he wasn’t playin’ in the NBA forever, he sure left his mark in the game.
So, if you’re ever wonderin’ what happened to Damon Brown after all them basketball games, well, I reckon he’s been busy. He’s still keepin’ busy with coachin’ and sharin’ his knowledge with the younger folks comin’ up. And though he ain’t a star player in the NBA no more, he sure did his part and made it as far as most people could only dream of. Ain’t that somethin’?
