Well, folks, I reckon we’re gonna have a little chinwag ’bout Neil Shea. Now, I ain’t no expert in hockey or them fancy player stats, but I sure do know a thing or two ‘bout a good ol’ hardworking fella. Neil Shea, you see, he’s a feller who got himself into hockey, a real tough sport, and let me tell ya, it ain’t no easy road. Born way back on July 15, 1963, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Neil had his sights set on the big leagues right from the start. Now, don’t go thinkin’ just ‘cause he’s from Massachusetts means he grew up rich or anything like that. No sir, Neil came from humble beginnings, just like a lot of folks I know.
Now, Neil’s not some famous star who’s been on every big screen or talkin’ head on TV, but he sure has made a name for himself in hockey circles. He’s a forward player, which means he’s the one that’s always on the move, workin’ hard to score them goals and help his team win. Not just any player either—Neil’s the kind of guy that gets noticed. He’s played for teams like the Colorado Eagles, and he’s been around the ECHL, the lower leagues where players hustle and grind every single day.
One thing that sticks out about Neil, from what I’ve heard, is how he balances the game with his education. Back in 2020-21, he made it onto the Hockey East All-Academic Team, which just goes to show that the man don’t just hit the ice, he knows his books too. Ain’t that somethin’? Can you imagine, running down the ice and trying to score, but also hittin’ the books hard to make sure you’re getting those grades? Now that’s workin’ hard, and not just in one field, but two!
Now, I heard tell he scored a goal in the home opener back in December 2020 against Merrimack. Must’ve been a proud moment for him, I reckon. I can imagine him skating down that ice, stick in hand, eyes locked on the goal, and wham! He gets it right in. I don’t know much ‘bout hockey, but I know a goal when I hear about one. And Neil, well, he knows how to make it happen.
But here’s the thing, folks. Neil Shea ain’t just some hockey player who’s all muscle and no brain. The man’s also a writer. Now, that surprised me a bit when I first heard it. You wouldn’t expect a hockey player to sit down and write things like he does, but that’s exactly what Neil does. He’s worked on a podcast called “Unfinished: Deep South,” and let me tell ya, folks, it’s got some real good reviews, and even a Peabody Award nomination! That’s a big ol’ deal, you hear me? And on top of that, he’s got himself a book in the works called Frostlines. That’s a mighty fine mix of brains and brawn, if you ask me.
And now, let me tell ya, Neil’s been all over the place in his career. Played in different leagues, faced all sorts of challenges, and still found time to put his words out there for folks to read. Not easy, that’s for sure. But that’s what makes Neil Shea special. He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t let the world tell him who he can or can’t be. Whether it’s on the ice or behind a desk, he gives it his all.
So, folks, next time you hear Neil Shea’s name, remember—he ain’t just a hockey player. He’s a man who’s worked hard, made a name for himself in multiple ways, and continues to give his best whether he’s on the ice or in front of a typewriter. That’s the kind of fella you’d be proud to know, if you ask me.
