Okay, here’s my story about the Falmouth hockey tournament:
So, we got this flyer at home for a hockey tournament, the “Fall Classic Tournament” or something, in Falmouth. My kid’s crazy about hockey, plays it all the time, so I thought, why not? It was supposed to happen in early November, I think from the 1st to the 3rd. Sounded like a decent way to spend a weekend. I signed him up for the Squirt B division. They also had PeeWee B and Bantam B, but he’s still a little guy.
First, I had to figure out the dates. There were two options, one in early November and another one later, closer to December. We picked the early November one, figured it would be less crowded. I found the registration form online. Filled it out, it was pretty basic stuff, kid’s name, age, team, the usual. There were all these divisions, Mite A, Mite B, Mite C, Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam. I just ticked the Squirt B box and hoped for the best.
We drove up to Falmouth. It was a bit of a drive, but the kid was excited. We got there, found the ice arena. It was called the “Falmouth Ice Arena” I think. There were a lot of people, other families, teams warming up. There was this other thing, too, the “2nd Annual FYH Street Hockey Tournament,” which was a bit confusing, but we were there for the ice hockey, so we just ignored that.
We found our team, got the kid dressed up in his gear. They had these warm-up sessions, you know, getting the kids used to the ice and all. It was a bit chaotic, with so many kids and parents around, but it was fun.
Games Time
Then came the games. The first game was a bit rough. They lost. Kid was bummed, but, you know, it happens. I told him it’s all about having fun, learning, all that stuff. The next game, they did better, tied it up. That was exciting. We were all cheering, other parents too, it was a good atmosphere.
There were teams from all over, Barnstable, Braintree, Canton, Cape Cod, Duxbury, all these places I’d barely heard of. It was a big deal, this tournament. They called it the “Island Queen Buddy Ferreira Classic” at some point. Sounded important, I guess.
- First game: Lost, but it’s okay.
- Second game: Tied, much better!
- Third game: They won! We were all so happy.
We played another game the next day, and they actually won that one! The kid was super happy, got a little trophy thing at the end. It was a good experience, all in all. Lots of driving, lots of cheering, lots of hockey. Would I do it again? Probably. The kid loved it, and that’s what matters, right?
Oh, and there was this one game, girls’ varsity, against some school called Biddeford High. That was a good game too, very intense. They played at the Family Ice Center, which I guess is also in Falmouth. Anyway, that was our Falmouth hockey adventure. Pretty cool, pretty tiring, but definitely memorable.
