Well, let me tell ya ’bout them tennis courts down at Washington Park. I ain’t no fancy tennis player, mind you, but I’ve seen folks havin’ a good time down there, so I reckon I can tell ya a thing or two.
First off, they got plenty of courts, see? Seven of ’em, last I counted. And they ain’t just any ol’ courts neither, they got lights! So you can play even when the sun goes down, which is mighty nice if you ask me. Folks are busy these days, workin’ and such, so havin’ lights means you can get a game in whenever you got the time.
Now, I hear tell some of them tennis clubs, the ones with all the fancy rules and such, they play their matches down at Washington Park too. Somethin’ called the WPTC USTA League, I think. Sounds mighty important, but I just stick to watchin’ from the sidelines. Them folks take their tennis serious, let me tell ya!
- They got nets and all, right there on the spot.
- And if they ain’t enough, you can go borrow one from that Burlingame Community Center place.
- They got all sorts of stuff over there, not just tennis things.
This Washington Park ain’t just for tennis, though. It’s a big place, with all sorts of things to do. They got a place for skatin’, and fields for playin’ ball, even horseshoes! It’s a good place to take the grandkids, let ’em run around and get some fresh air. Lord knows they spend too much time starin’ at them screens these days.
I heard someone say somethin’ ’bout the size of them courts once. Somethin’ ’bout meters and feet and all that. Sounded complicated to me. All I know is they’re big enough for two folks to play on one side, or just one person if they ain’t got a partner. Seems like plenty of room to me, but then again, I ain’t the one doin’ all that runnin’ around.
There’s this group called TennisPortland, they like them Washington Park courts too. They’re all about hittin’ the ball and havin’ fun, seems like. They got all sorts of games goin’ on, some serious and some just for fun. It’s nice to see folks gettin’ together and enjoyin’ themselves, that’s what I say.
And this park, it ain’t just any ol’ park, it’s in a neighborhood, see? Washington Park neighborhood they call it. In Atlanta, I think. Or maybe it’s that Portland place. Or maybe even Jefferson City, Missouri… Shoot, I get all these places mixed up sometimes. Too many fancy names for this old gal to keep track of.
But the important thing is, them tennis courts are there for folks to use. Whether you’re a fancy tennis player or just someone lookin’ to have a little fun, you’re welcome down there. That’s what I like about it. It’s a place for everyone.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do, head on down to Washington Park. You can play some tennis, watch some tennis, or just sit on a bench and enjoy the sunshine. It’s a good place to spend an afternoon, that’s for sure.
And don’t you worry about bein’ good at tennis. Most folks down there are just like you and me, just tryin’ to have a good time. So go on, give it a try. You might just surprise yourself.
