Well, y’all, let me tell ya ’bout somethin’ I been hearin’ lots of folks talkin’ about lately. It’s called the Flood-Marr Hockey Tournament. It’s a big deal, I reckon, ‘cause folks from all over come together to play some hockey. This year, in 2023, it’s gonna happen from December 15 to December 17. That’s right, just before Christmas, right when folks are runnin’ around gettin’ ready for the holidays, they’re also headin’ to the rink. The tournament’s gonna be at the Milton Academy’s Roberts Rink, which is in Milton, of course.
Now, you might be wonderin’ what this here tournament is all about. Well, it’s a kinda tradition, see? Been goin’ on for years, and this one will be the 58th time they’ve done it. They play hockey, of course, but there’s more to it than just skates and sticks. The teams come from all over, includin’ Milton Academy and Noble & Greenough, and this year’s gonna have some real showdowns. Last year, Milton Academy won the whole thing, and they even went on to do pretty well the rest of the season. They were all the way up at No. 3 seed by the time the season ended. So, y’know, a win at this tournament can set the tone for the rest of the year.
But hold on now, it ain’t just about the games. There’s a lot of folks come to watch too, sittin’ in the bleachers, cheerin’ on their teams. I hear there’s gonna be some real standouts this year, like Anthony Biakabutuka. He had a memorable tournament last year, and folks are expectin’ even more this time around. I reckon we’re gonna see some real hockey action, so if you’re nearby, you better grab a seat early, or you’ll be standin’ for the whole thing.
The teams, now, they’re gonna be some real tough competitors. You got teams like Deerfield School, Salisbury School, and Phillips Academy Andover. And don’t forget about Kimball Union Academy. They all got good players, folks, and they’re all comin’ to show what they got. This year, the games will be spread out over three days, with Friday and Sunday games at Milton Academy’s rink, and Saturday at Noble & Greenough School. It’s a full weekend of hockey action, for sure.
Oh, and let’s not forget the playoff games, that’s where it really gets heated. The last day, Sunday, December 17, is gonna have the playoff rounds, and the final winner will take home the trophy. If you’ve never seen a Flood-Marr Tournament game, you’re missin’ out. The excitement in the air is somethin’ else, especially when the players start skatin’ fast and gettin’ into those tight spots. I tell ya, it gets the heart pumpin’!
Now, you might be askin’, who’s gonna take home the win this year? Well, it’s hard to say, but you know Milton Academy’s gonna be a tough team to beat, especially after last year’s win. But don’t count out the other teams, they’re all comin’ with their A-game. Whoever comes out on top, it’s gonna be a big moment for them, and folks will be talkin’ about it for years to come.
So, if you got time and you’re lookin’ for somethin’ fun to do this December, why not head on over to Milton and catch some of the games? It’s a good way to get in the holiday spirit, watch some competitive hockey, and maybe even see a few future stars in action. Can’t beat that with a stick, if you ask me!
