Well, let me tell you ’bout this big ol’ event, called the Flood Marr Hockey Tournament. It happens every year, like clockwork, and it’s been going on for a long time now. This year, it’s the 57th time they’re havin’ it. Now, don’t be confused by the name, it ain’t about floods or marrin’ folks. It’s a big ol’ hockey tournament, y’know? All the fancy-schmancy teams gather around and play hard, all to see who comes out on top.
This year’s tournament is gonna take place from December 16 to December 18, and it’s gonna be hosted by the Noble and Greenough School, along with Milton Academy. Both these schools got their rinks ready, all set to go, and they’re lookin’ forward to seein’ some good ol’ hockey action. I reckon it’s gonna be a real treat for all the folks comin’ to watch. Now, I ain’t too sure about all the details, but I can tell ya, them teams are ready to play.
Now, every year, the tournament gets a good crowd. You see, people come from all over to watch the games, especially parents, friends, and all the folks who love their hockey. They say it’s a real big deal for the kids playin’—some of ‘em get scholarships, y’know? So, it’s like a big ol’ stage for these young fellas to show off their skills. I remember back when my grandkids used to play hockey, they’d get so worked up just to get on that ice. It’s somethin’ special, I tell ya.
This year, I hear Kimball Union is gonna be in the mix. Now, don’t quote me, but I think they’ve been doin’ real good. Last year, they beat Salisbury 5-2 in the final. Quite a victory, I’d say. The game was pretty intense, what with all them folks yellin’ and cheerin’ from the sidelines. Those boys don’t hold back when they’re out on that ice.
Some of these teams been comin’ to the Flood Marr Tournament for years. They got traditions, y’know, like how certain teams always play on certain days. It don’t change much, and folks know where they need to be. I reckon that’s part of the charm. Whether it’s the early mornin’ games or the late-night ones, the place is always filled with energy. I can imagine how it smells too—like fresh ice and popcorn, mixed with a little bit of sweat from all that hustle on the rink.
But it ain’t just about the big schools. Some of these smaller teams are real good too, and they’ve got somethin’ to prove. When it comes down to it, it’s about the love for the game. It don’t matter if you’re from a small school or a big one, every team is out there to give it their all.
The way they schedule it, there’s always a game or two goin’ on at the same time. I reckon the folks who put this tournament together, they know what they’re doin’. Keeps things movin’ smooth-like, so nobody gets bored waitin’ for the next game. I heard them warm-ups start at 8:53 AM on Friday, December 16, so you better be ready bright and early if you wanna catch the action. And then, they keep playin’ all through the weekend. By the time Sunday rolls around, everyone’s gettin’ real anxious to see who takes the trophy home.
Now, this ain’t just a game for the kids—it’s a chance for the whole community to come together. Everybody, from the youngest to the oldest, gets a chance to enjoy the event. They have snacks and drinks, and plenty of folks are there to cheer on their teams. The atmosphere is just somethin’ special. Ain’t no better way to spend a chilly December weekend, I say.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good time this December, and if you love hockey like I do, you should definitely think about headin’ on over to the Flood Marr Tournament. I reckon you won’t be disappointed. And who knows, maybe you’ll get to see some of these young players go on to bigger and better things one day. But either way, it’s gonna be a weekend full of excitement, team spirit, and some good ol’ fashioned competition. Don’t miss it!
