Alright, so, let me tell you about my day messing around with Marquette men’s tennis. It wasn’t exactly a day on the courts, but more of a deep dive into their team and what they’re all about.
I started off by just checking out their schedule, you know, the usual. I noticed they had their 2024 fall campaign coming up in Toledo. That got me curious about how they’ve been doing recently. I found out that they recently played at Drake. I couldn’t find the exact results, but it sounded intense. They were using some live results link to keep everyone updated, which is pretty cool. I wish I could’ve followed along in real-time. Then I dug a little deeper and saw that they had a tough match against Xavier in some big tournament. Sadly, they lost, but it sounds like two players, San Andres and Dragovic, did pretty well in their singles matches.
I noticed a player on the team, Teddy Wong, has quite the backstory. Apparently, he overcame a rare brain tumor in high school, which is absolutely incredible. It’s stories like these that really make you appreciate the dedication and resilience of these athletes.
I also looked into some of the team dynamics. I found this bit about a doubles match where sophomore Dan Mamalat and junior Jose Carlos Gutierrez Crowley won 8-6, while their opponents, the Jaguars, won 8-4 in another match. It seems like every point counts in tennis, right? For those who don’t know, in tennis, you need four points to win a game (love, 15, 30, 40), six games to win a set, and usually two sets to win a match. It’s a game of strategy and endurance.
