Well, ain’t this something, talkin’ ’bout this Gavin Cornforth hockey fella. He plays that ice game, you know, with the stick and the puck? Yep, that one. Kid’s from Boston, they say. Born in 2006, December 15th, just a wee lad.
Now, they tell me he’s playing with them Dubuque Fighting Saints. Sounds like a rough bunch, don’t it? Fighting! But it’s just a name, I reckon. He’s been with ’em a spell, played a whole heap of games. 111 they say, USHL games. That’s a lotta skatin’ and whackin’ that puck, I tell ya.
He started off this last season, 2022-23, in September. Played against Des Moines. And wouldn’t ya know it, he scored his first goal in November! Took him a bit, but he got there. Kid’s gotta start somewhere, right? Everybody does.
And now he’s up there on the top line. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Top line, means he’s one of the best, I figure. Showin’ ’em what he can do. He’s got a future, they say. Gonna go to Boston College, learn some more about that hockey game. Smart kid, gettin’ that education.

- He plays for the Saints.
- He’s goin’ to college.
That goalie fella, Kevin Reidler, he stopped a bunch of shots, 23 out of 24. Good job, Kevin! But Gavin, he scored too. Along with Seamus Powell and Jake somethin’-or-other. Helped the Saints win, I reckon. That’s what ya do in that game, score more than the other fellas.
Dubuque, they lost some players, but they still got Gavin. He’s stickin’ around, playin’ his heart out. Gotta work hard, that’s what I always say. Nothin’ comes easy, ya gotta put in the effort. He’s doin’ it, that Gavin.
They talk about him bein’ a forward. F, they write. Means he’s up there, tryin’ to score. Not like that goalie, standin’ in front of the net all day. Gavin’s movin’, skatin’, shootin’ that puck. Gotta have good aim, I bet. And fast legs too!
He’s young, this Gavin. Just 17, maybe 18 now. Got a long way to go. But he’s playin’ hard, learnin’ the ropes. Maybe he’ll be famous someday, that Gavin Cornforth. Maybe folks will know his name, all over the country. You never know, do ya? Life’s funny like that.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say ’bout this Gavin fella. He’s a hockey player, plays for the Saints, gonna go to college. Sounds like a good kid, workin’ hard. Good for him, I say. Good for him.
