Alright, so I decided to check out this “Jerry Powell Basketball Trainer” thing. I’d heard some buzz, seen some stuff online, and figured, why not? My handles are kinda weak, and I’m always looking for ways to improve my game, even if it’s just for pick-up games at the park.
First, I did some digging. Just some basic searching around, you know, to get a feel for what this Jerry Powell guy is all about. It looked like the focus was on ball-handling drills and skill development, which sounded perfect.
My Training Session Begins!
I started by warming up,Just my usual, couple of stretches, and I’m ready to go!. I’m focusing on the basics. You know, the stuff you kinda forget about when you’re just playing.
I’m going to go through the drills, I’m gonna started with some simple dribbling exercises. Pound the ball with my right hand, then my left. Crossovers, between the legs, behind the back. Nothing fancy, just getting a feel for the ball. I did it for about, I dunno, 15-20 minutes? I didn’t time the start,Just trying to get that rhythm going.
- Pound Dribbles: Focusing on keeping my head up, my back straight, and using my fingertips, not my palms. Hard dribbles, man, really working the forearm.
- Crossovers: Keeping the ball low, trying to get faster and faster with each rep. Felt awkward at first, but after a while, it started to flow a bit better.
- Between the Legs: This one is always tough for me. I tend to lose control. Gotta work on that. I spent extra time here, really focusing on keeping the ball close to my body.
- Behind the Back: Okay, this is where I really struggle. But I kept at it, even though I messed up a bunch. I could feel myself getting a tiny bit better, though.
After the basic dribbling stuff, I decided to add in some *, I started dribbling around the some space, changing direction, and trying to incorporate those same moves. It’s way harder when you’re moving, let me tell you! I was tripping over myself a few times, but hey, that’s part of the process, right?
Wrapping it Up
I finished up with some cool-down stretches. My arms were definitely feeling it! Overall, it was a solid workout. Did I magically become an NBA-level ball-handler? Nope. But I did feel like I got a good workout, and I could see how these drills, if I stick with them, could really help my game.
My plan is to try and incorporate these drills into my routine a few times a week. Consistency is key, I think. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress (or lack thereof!). Maybe I’ll even post a video someday… if I get brave enough!
