So, I’ve been trying to get back into shape lately, and basketball seemed like a fun way to do it. I live near Cambridge, and I figured there must be some decent places to play. Here’s how my little basketball adventure went down.
The Search Begins
First, I fired up my laptop and started googling. “Cambridge basketball courts,” “basketball games Cambridge,” that kind of thing. I found a few community centers and parks listed, but it wasn’t super clear which ones were good or if people actually played pick-up games there.
Hitting the Courts (or Trying To)
Next, I decided to just drive around and check out a few of the spots I found online. The first park I went to was pretty empty. The court looked okay, but there was nobody playing. Kinda disappointing.
The second place was a bit better. There were a couple of guys shooting around, but they seemed to be just practicing. I’m no LeBron, so I felt a little awkward just jumping in.
Finding My Game
I almost gave up, but then I remembered a friend mentioning a community center that had indoor courts. I drove over there, and bingo! There were two games going on, and they looked pretty lively.
I walked in, a little nervous, but I spotted a group that looked like they were about my skill level (which isn’t saying much!). I worked up the courage and asked if I could join the next game. They were cool about it, and I was in!
Game Time!
The game was a blast! It was fast-paced, but not too serious. I even managed to score a few baskets (mostly lucky shots, but hey, I’ll take it!). I definitely got a good workout, and it was way more fun than running on a treadmill.
The Aftermath
After the game, I was completely wiped, but in a good way. My muscles were sore, I was sweating buckets, but I felt great. I chatted with a few of the guys, and it turns out they play there pretty regularly.
- Find the group that plays a lot.
- Don’t worry much.
- Have a good time!
So, that’s my Cambridge basketball story. I went from cluelessly searching online to finding a solid group to play with. It took a bit of effort, but it was totally worth it. I’m definitely planning on going back next week!
