Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make some Ohio State football art for a while now. I’m a huge Buckeyes fan, and I thought it would be cool to have some unique artwork to hang in my man cave. I wasn’t really sure where to start, so I did what anyone else would do – I started Googling!
I looked at a bunch of different styles, from abstract stuff to more realistic paintings. I even checked out some digital art, which I thought was pretty neat. I wasn’t finding exactly what I wanted, though. I wanted something, you know, different.
Brainstorming and Sketching
After my initial search, I decided to just start brainstorming. I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down ideas. I thought about iconic images – Brutus Buckeye, the stadium, maybe even a silhouette of Woody Hayes. I did some really rough sketches, and I mean really rough. Stick figures, mostly. I’m no artist, that’s for sure.
Then it hit me. I wanted something that captured the energy of game day. The excitement, the roar of the crowd, the band… that kind of thing. So I started playing around with the idea of using bold colors and strong lines. I even messed around with some splatters and textures, trying to make it look a bit more dynamic, a bit more…alive.
Gathering Reference Images
Of course, I needed some good reference pictures. No way was I going to draw any of this from memory! I went back to Google and found some awesome photos of the stadium, the players, and even some close-ups of the uniforms. Having those visuals really helped me get a better sense of the shapes and details I wanted to incorporate.
The Actual Creation Process (Finally!)
I finally decided on a design that combined Brutus Buckeye with some abstract shapes and bold colors. I’m not going to lie, it took a few tries to get it right. I started with a pencil sketch on a big piece of poster board. Then I went over it with markers, using different shades of red, gray, and black. The outlining was the trickiest part, trying to get those lines clean and crisp.
To add that “game day energy” I was talking about, I actually flicked some paint onto the poster board. Yeah, it was messy, but it gave it that raw, exciting feel I was going for. It kind of looks like confetti or something, I don’t know, but I like it!
The Finished Product
After a few hours of work (and a lot of cleaning up paint splatters), I finally finished it! It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. It’s got that unique, handmade feel that I was going for. I’m pretty proud of it, actually. I’m thinking about framing it and hanging it up next to my TV. It’ll be perfect for game days!
This whole thing was way more fun than i expected. and you konw what, maybe I’ll try another one soon. Maybe a collage next time? Who knows! Go Bucks!
