Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “pink out” shirts everywhere lately, especially around football season. You know, the ones that support breast cancer awareness? I decided I wanted to get in on it and make my own, show my support, and plus, save a little money, since the store-bought ones can be pricey.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed a plain pink t-shirt. Nothing fancy, just a basic one from the craft store. You can find these for a few dollars, which is already a win. I made sure it was 100% cotton because I planned on using fabric paint and wanted it to stick well.
The Design Process
Next up was the design. I wanted something football-related but also, like, clearly for breast cancer awareness. I’m not the best artist, so I kept it simple. I decided on a football helmet silhouette with a pink ribbon incorporated somehow. I sketched out a few ideas on paper first, just messing around until I got something I liked.
- I used a pencil to lightly sketch my final design onto the shirt. I didn’t press too hard, just in case I messed up and needed to erase.
- Then, the fun part: painting! I got some white fabric paint for the helmet and a brighter pink for the ribbon. I also used black to out line my design.
- Slowly and steadily, I filled in the helmet shape. I did a couple of coats to make sure it was nice and solid white.
Adding the Ribbon
For the ribbon, I decided to make it look like it was wrapped around the helmet. I carefully painted the ribbon shape, overlapping the white helmet a bit. Again, a couple of coats for good measure.
Finishing Touches
Once the paint was dry (I waited a good few hours, just to be safe), I went over the whole design. I added some extra details, I am so happy with how it turned out!
And that’s it! My very own, custom-made “pink out” football shirt. It was super easy, pretty cheap, and I feel good wearing it, knowing I’m showing my support. Totally recommend giving it a try!
