Alright, so the other day I was trying to recall the New York Giants’ roster from the 2010 season. You know, just for kicks and giggles. It was the 86th season for the Giants, and also their first time playing in that New Meadowlands Stadium. First thing I did was just hit up the usual search engines, typing in stuff like “Giants football roster 2010.”
The search results popped up pretty quick. I started clicking through some of those pages, I saw some were just basic lists, some with player stats, game schedules, you name it. Some even had info on the new players they drafted that year. One site was talking about the team’s over/under record, which got me curious so I dug into that a little bit too.
Then I found a few pages that had the players listed out in a table, with their positions and birthdays and everything. I spotted some familiar names like Shawn Andrews, born on December 25, 1982, and played as LT. There was also Jake Ballard, TE, born on December 2, 1987. And Ramses Barden, a WR, born on January 1, 1986. Travis Beckum, TE, with a birthday on January 24, was also on the list.
I spent a good chunk of time going through those lists, checking out the different positions, dates of birth, all that jazz. I even stumbled upon some fan pages with team news and articles, which was a nice little trip down memory lane.
Oh, and here’s a fun fact I learned: the Giants’ legal name is actually “The New York Football Giants.” Apparently, they did that to avoid confusion with the New York Giants baseball team. Who knew, right? And I found out that Timothy Mara and Will Gibson were granted a franchise by the NFL for their newly organized team in New York City on August 1, 1925, and the cost was 2,500 dollars.
Then I remembered that the Giants were coached by Tom Coughlin in 2010, and they finished with a 10-6 record. They came in 2nd in the NFC East and 7th in the NFC. It wasn’t their best season, but hey, it was still interesting to look back on.
So yeah, that’s pretty much how I spent my afternoon, geeking out over the 2010 Giants roster. It was a fun little project, and I figured I’d share it with you guys. Maybe you’ll find it interesting too!
