Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get my kid into a hockey camp. He’s been bugging me about it, and honestly, I think it’s a great idea. So, I started digging around for options in Maine. I figured it would be easy, but boy was I wrong. There’s a ton of information out there, but it’s all scattered.
First, I started with a simple search, just “hockey camps Maine”. I got a bunch of results, but a lot of them were outdated or just not very helpful. I spent a good chunk of time just filtering through these. I saw some for different levels, like NCAA, Adult, and even professional levels. That’s definitely not what I was looking for! I also saw some tags that said things like “AA”, “A1”, and so on. I had no idea what those were about, so I had to do some more research.
Then I stumbled upon a few websites that talked about the benefits of hockey camps. It mentioned things like getting “top-notch professional instruction”, which sounded pretty good. It got me thinking about what I really wanted for my son’s experience. I mean, he is a beginner.
After that, I found something about a local hockey association, HYHA. They have programs for beginners, and one’s called “Break the Ice”, which sounds perfect. It seems like they group kids by age and skill level, which makes sense.
Narrowing It Down
- Checked out the HYHA website thoroughly.
- Noted the different age groups: 15’s, 16’s, 17’s in one group, 12’s, 13’s, 14’s in another, and even some for 09’s.
- Figured out which group my son fits into.
I finally found that for our specific case, the local hockey organization is the most suitable one. The most important thing is that my son could learn something new and have fun. So I called them, asked some detailed questions, and registered my son.
It was way more work than I expected, but I’m glad I did it. Now my son is super excited, and I feel good knowing he’s going to have a great time while learning a new skill.
