Okay, so I saw this crazy “horse football costume” idea online and thought, “No way, I gotta try that!” It looked hilarious and perfect for that Halloween party I’m going to.
First, I gathered all my materials. This was mostly stuff I had lying around, which was a bonus. Here’s what I used:
- A large cardboard box (big enough to fit around my waist)
- Brown paint (and some black and white for details)
- Some old fabric scraps for a “mane” and “tail”
- A cheap football helmet I found at a thrift store
- String and tape (lots of tape!)
The Construction Process
I started by cutting the cardboard box. Basically, I needed a hole for my body and arm holes. This took a few tries to get right. I kept putting it on and taking it off to make sure it fit okay and I could move reasonably well.
Next up, painting! I gave the whole box a good coat of brown paint. Then I added some black for the hooves and a white blaze on the “face.” It wasn’t perfect, but it definitely looked like a horse… a very boxy horse. I am not good at drawing, my horse looks very abstract.
Then, I used those fabric scraps. I cut them into strips and taped them to the back of the box for a tail, and along the top edge for a mane. This part was a little tricky, but the tape held everything in place surprisingly well.
The helmet was the easy part. I just had to make sure it would stay on my head while I was wearing the box.I fixed the helmet on my head.
The Final Result
Putting it all on was… interesting. It definitely took some wiggling and adjusting. But once I was in, it was amazing! I looked like a ridiculous, running horse-football player hybrid. Mission accomplished! I can’t wait to wear this thing to the party. It’s going to be a hit, I just know it.
It’s heavy, but I can bear it.
