Okay, so, let me tell you about this whole Beacon Hill Football thing I got into.
It all started when I was looking for some local sports stuff to get involved in. I mean, I wasn’t really looking to become a pro or anything, just wanted to have some fun, meet some folks, and get a bit of exercise, you know? So, I heard about this Beacon Hill Football Club, or BHFC, as they like to call it. Sounded pretty cool, so I decided to check it out. They have this old website but it has no information on it. I found it is actually just a small club and they only use Facebook page for new information.
First thing I did was look them up online. Found their Facebook page – looks like they’ve got a decent following, something like 819 followers and they were following 424. They even have a senior team which is called Beacon Hill Senior FC. Not bad for a local club, right? Another page is even smaller, only 461 followers and 323 following. I thought, “Okay, these guys seem pretty established.”
Then, I dug a little deeper. Turns out, Beacon Hill and another club, Manly Allambie, they merged. Yeah, they’re now called Allambie Beacon Hill United Football Club, or ABH United for short. I guess that’s why their website was dead. I found the announcement on their Facebook page. It said something like, “To register the club, please call this number.” But I prefer to talk to them face to face.
So, I went down to their home field, Hindhead Playing Fields. It’s a nice little spot. I saw a bunch of people there, all ages, from little kids in the under-5s to the older guys in the under-18s. Everyone seemed really into it, and the vibe was super welcoming. They are proud to be an inclusive community football club. I even found out that they got this new 3G pitch, and they were the main club behind the project. Pretty impressive, huh?
My Experience Joining In
- I started by just watching a few games, getting a feel for the place.
- Then, I plucked up the courage to ask about joining. Everyone was really friendly and encouraging.
- They have these training sessions, so I started going to those. It was a bit of a struggle at first, not gonna lie, haven’t played in ages!
- But the coaches were great, very patient, and they helped me get back into the swing of things.
- Eventually, I started playing in some of the matches. It’s been a blast!
Honestly, getting involved with Beacon Hill Football has been one of the best things I’ve done recently. I’ve met some great people, got back into shape, and I’m having a ton of fun playing the game again. It just goes to show, sometimes it’s good to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You never know what you might find!
I also look back on what I have achieved in the past months. I lost some weight and made a lot of new friends. That’s awesome!
